If your getting a puppy get a kitten as well. Surprisingly enough they are amazingly compatible because of how different they are. The reason I say get them as a baby's is because they will learn to love each other. The balance of energy from the dog and calm from the cat is perfect for anyone.
Dogs are obedient, reliable, and most of all faithful. They provide that bit of energy that we all need in our life.
Cats on the other hand, provide the calm and zenlike state that helps us function through complicated and stressful situations
