Chapter 1 - Wood

The date had been set for the 3rd Saturday of the following month. The letter said other members would be there and she was sure some would get the hump. Family and close friends often fought over greed and jealousy, But she was just grateful that she was included in the will and didn't really want anything.

She decided to spend the weekend alone down at "Carpenter's Inn" The lake house appealed to her as it wasn't lavish, ornate and grand like all the other family's dwellings. She loved the atmosphere there and felt at ease with the spectacular surroundings. The modest building was designed and hand built by her grandfather who also founded the family's company.

Her grandfather, John Carpenter was a working class man, He earned his fortune from cultivating off the land. John was another generation of carpenters in a long history of the Carpenter's clan, Who felled trees to create furniture they built with their own hands.

John used his money wisely and purchased some woodland in Kent. He quickly had a reputation for perfection but also as a fair gent. He employed many locals and unskilled poor men, They'd chop trees and use them to build "Carpenter's Inn"

John built pews, alters and other ornate pieces made of wood for the church. He was involved in a bad accident which had left him badly hurt. John was paralysed from the waist down after he fell from a roof, head first. John lived out his remaining days carving intricate and detailed jewellery boxes, trunks, sculptures and commissions for other private work.

Now, Sara Carpenter, Johns granddaughter really enjoyed her days at the lake house, She often remembered fondly her youthful summer holidays She'd stay there to get away from her fathers estranged spouse. John would often be there and he would talk of how his fortune came about, Sara loved to hear his stories and listened intently making no sounds.

To be continued........

P.S. As this is a new challenge I'm going to attempt to complete this story poem using each word in the #description challenge :-)
