Chapter 2 - Creatures

It was now the weekend that Sara wasn't looking forward too Tomorrow is the 3rd Saturday of the month in June Tonight was the eve of the will and Friday the 13th, with an expected full moon Sara was back at Carpenter's Inn enjoying the sun set over the lakes picturesque view

She was feeling quite emotional and replayed old memories in her mind. Memories of John, Sara's grandad, and all of their many, many good times John had a great way with people and always found words so kind They shared a special bond as Sara was his first grandchild

Sara sat on the wooden swing seat on the veranda with wine in hand She looked over at Johns favourite carved blue rocking chair and a tear fell down She'd had a flashback when she was a child of how the chairs special wood had been found A tale of when John first brought these woods and how he discovered the secret of this special land

John was a young fit man aged 26 when he was offered to buy the woodland off the church John knew he would have it and agreed there and then as soon as it was offered The land had many acres with various large tree species, a vast lake, all untouched and not properly explored The church had it in its possession for hundreds of years but now they offered it to John in part payment with an exclusive contract for his carpentry work

Once John had the deeds he took a trip to see for himself what he now owned. He wandered in through the massive trees in awe at how tall they had grown. John spent many hours exploring his land all alone, He finally came to a clearing and the view of the lake and woods in the distance had his mind blown. John knew there and then that this is where he would build his own Carpenter's home

It was getting late and reluctantly John entered back into the trees but quickly got lost. He decided to make camp and built a makeshift shelter out of fallen branches, dead leafs and moss. He built himself a fire by rubbing 2 sticks together to create heat from the friction. John had always felt good at night surrounded by wood and the eerie sounds of nighttime nature never bothered him.

He was quite hungry but had no food left to eat, So he bedded down and quickly fell asleep But then woke a few hours later to the sounds of footsteps and breaking twigs, He heard voices but couldn't quite make out what they were standing right in front of him.

They were tiny little creatures approx 3ft in height, With eyes that glowed in the darkness of night. John could just make out their faces in the fires dying light. He couldn't believe what he was seeing with his own sight.

One creature moved forwards towards John, It held out its arm with its hand open. John counted at least 15, maybe more of them, He stretched out his own arm and took the creatures hand in his but it had no thumbs.

The creatures only made cute little laughing sounds as they all walked through the woods. At first John was unsure but they seemed very friendly and their nature was good. Some ran while others climbed and swung high up in the canopy following the trail they walked along. They all stopped before an impressive huge tree that John had never before set eyes upon.

This tree was unlike anything John had seen before. It had bark type material but with tiny veins that glowed and pulsed from the top and right down into the woodlands floor. On closer inspection it was actually a very dark blue colour and its base was at least 10ft wide, maybe more. Then one of the creatures tapped the tree and a door opened by itself and out shone a soft green light. All the creatures walked in but one creature looked back and beckoned John to follow them inside.

To be continued......
