Nostalgia

Why is it that we have this feeling towards our past? Is it because we truly loved it, or is it because we're afraid of what's ahead, or does our past just give us comfort?
Why do I feel nostalgic towards my school days? I remember I used to hate waking up early, used to sleep in classes, and I used to resent the hypocrisy and injustice of the school system. But now I can't seem to remember all of that, or I do remember; it just doesn't matter anymore. All I could recall from school was the running around, playing, jokes, and laughter among friends.
College was just a year ago; I can remember clearly. Attendance, midterms, boring lectures, studying oh I used to hate studying, but somehow it seems so dear to my heart right now. I can feel it but I don't understand it; this sweetness towards things that I know will never come back.
Maybe that's it, maybe because I know they'll never come back, we always want what we can't have, don't we?
The heart wants what it wants,
The eyes see what they see,
And the world goes on as it should be.
