I went to my doctor the other day with a bad back. He prodded and poked and said I had Mechanical Back Ache and that pain killers and time would sort it out. Obviously he didn't actually prescribe any decent pain killers as that would have cost his budget, normal paracetamol would do the job.
So home I went and dosed myself with paracetamol and carried on as best as I could.
The point of this story though is: I don't do the whole going to the doctor thing and have not been for years. I only went this time to keep my wife happy (go to see the doctor, maybe it's really serious!). Anyway, I went, it was a waste of time, told you so.
But why o why didn't the doctor take the opportunity to run some tests? He could have checked my blood pressure; what about my cholesterol; are my sugars high? Now that's how he can really save his budget-find out now that I have syndrome X and dose me up with pills before I fall over with an MI and need a triple heart bypass angio-whatsit that will cost the NHS £50,000. And that's just the salary of the surgeon!
