A Gem

Chapter 2
My alarm bells started ringing. Where had I been last? "Oh no!" I said as I remembered where I put it. Being such a careless and forgetful person I'd left it at the swimming baths! "Mom!" I half shouted half whispered as I remembered mom would freak out. "What." Mum answered frowning. " My washing is out and it's bucketing it down so hurry up!" I looked at the floor. " I need" I muttered. "Help with my science homework!" Mum glanced at me "You can wait till later!" She fled down the stairs and into the garden to fetch the washing in. "That wasn't much help then." I murmured. You see I was really agitated because well... Would you like to be turned into stone? Didn't think so. Well neither did I! In a desprite bid to find my precious gem, I wasn't thinking straight. So I ended up phoning the swimming baths myself. "Hello." Said the voice on the other end. "How may I assist you?" I told them about my missing gem and the voice said. "Don't be a fool little girl your not going to turn into stone! Who told you that now dearie? Hmm?" The person on the other end waited for a reply. After a while they eventually said. "Look if it means that much to you I'll look if its in the pool and in the lost and found ok. Phone us later. " I didn't want later I wanted now. How long was later anyway? A minute, a second, a day, a hour, a year, a month? I couldn't wait any longer. It was a silly idea to start off with anyway. Who would belive a 14 and 3/4 year old girl? Who knows. Not me that's for sure!
