Chapter 4
I sneak into the bakery and pry open the glass case, they don't usually leave it locked so it was not problem getting in, I grab the biggest warmest peice of bread I could find and shove it into my jacket pocket. The jacket was nice and warm and still smelt like fabric softner, I smile and repeat his name in my head, Toby.
Minutes after getting bread from the bakery I reach home, well, almost home.
"Zackary?" I say skipping down the ally. I run my fingers down the sides of the concrete buildings as I pass. The one on my left is a diserted graphic design building and on my right is an appartment building, Toby's appartment building. I have to duck under the windows though just incase, there could be Condors staying in this building tonight and I don't wanna take any chances. Condor catch us and bring us to their tower. The Candor have been another enemy of the Scavengers for as long as I can remember, they catch us and use us as their slaves in the feilds. I would know this because after all, my little sister, older brother and father got caught by them. My mother got shot by a Royal after winning a court session. "Hey Zach?" I call out reaching the end of the ally to where the hut is, I open the flap and see him sitting there playing a game with some rocks with his friend Steven. Steven was 17, a year older then me, tall and strong, blonde hair reaching below his earlobes, brown eyes and super annoying.
"Glad you could make it." says Steven pretending to yawn and stretch his arms, but wraps them around me instead. "Wanna play with us?" he says gestering towards their odd rock game.
"I think I'll pass thanks." I say removing his arm from my back and walking to the corner of the hut where I sleep on some old rags, but tonight was the best sleep I have ever gotten, because I had something good to dream about.
