He glanced up at the clock. 'Oh Christ' he cursed. The Boss would be back soon and he hadn't finished all of the work he'd been given to do that day. He'd be in big trouble. When The Boss gave you something to do you did it. Or you suffered the consequences which were often painful and never pleasant.
He took a breath and decided to go all out to get everything done. Inside he knew it was an impossible task. There was simply too much to do in an hour and unfortunately for him The Boss was always punctual. He sighed as he recalled wasting two hours of the morning trying to solve some stupid problem with his PC. It needed doing but it wasn't on his list of jobs as dictated by The Boss. It would be no defence.
He resigned himself to his inevitable fate.
He heard the key in the lock and his heart sank.
The Boss was back.
She walked in, her angry eyes blazing as she surveyed the room. 'Hello dear. Have you had a good day at work?' he asked meekly.
Without even looking at him she raised her left arm and struck him across the side of his head with the back of her hand. 'You haven't finished the ironing. One simple thing I ask you to do to help me and you can't even be bothered to do that.'
Then she smiled and said sweetly 'What's for dinner?'
