I have many inspirations. I know I was supposed to pick one but, I couldnt choose between the three. Sorry :/
Rachel Carson-
May 27, 1907- April 14, 1964
Author, Scientist, Conservationist, Naturalist
Rachel Carson published a book, Silent Spring, in September 1962.It took her four years to write due to illness and she died two years later. It was a passionate plea to end the use of pesticides that were killing millions of songbirds across the globe, not just in USA. She painted the image of a world with no birds. No song. A silent spring. She was doing this, opposing major corporations at a time when women had rights but, it wasnt quite.. equal, I dont know how to describe it, just say it was made more difficult by the fact she was a woman. But within a year, after President Kennedy had organised a group of scientists to confirm what she wrote of, the opposition abated and she was awarded many prestigous awards. What she sought for, she achieved.
Quote- It is a wholesome and necessary thing for us to turn again to the earth and in the contemplation of her beauties to know of wonder and humility. (My favourite quote)
David Attenborough-
May 18, 1926 - Now
Naval Serviceman, Broadcaster, Naturalist, Conservationist, Author
David Attenborough is widely accepted to be the greatest TV Wildlife Presenter there has ever been. He has all round knowledge of the creatures on the planet, and his films have been instrumental in my interest in nature. He has explored more of the globe than anybody else on the planet. Even reaching the ocean floor for Blue Planet.
Quote- You know, it is a terrible thing to appear on television, because people think that you actually know what you're talking about.
Jane Goodall-
April 3, 1934 - Now
Scientist, Naturalist, Cobservationist
Jane Goodall is a reknowned animal researcher who specialised in chimpanzees. She had an especially close bond with one chimpanzee, who changed the worlds view on what it meant to be human. His name was Greybeard. He was filmed using tools and showing behavior that previously humans thought was solely our own. He raised the issue on whether a lot of practises on non- humans were ethical. And Jane Goodalls work changed the worlds views on the creatures we share our planet with.
Quote- Only if we understand can we care. Only if we care will we help. Only if we help shall they be saved
There are others too: Nelson Mandela Martin Luther King Jr Charles Darwin John Muir Mahatma Gandhi Etc.. But that would have been pushing the rules a bit too far :P
