He could feel the light again! It warmed him, and he felt tender, new arms reach for it. The boy came every day, and gave him water. He grew fast.

The boy didn't come anymore. There were more people, another boy who came instead. The acorn, who was now a sturdy oak tree, missed the old boy.
The next 25 years were a blur. He knew the people honored him, but they also did strange things. They put sharp things in him to hold papers, and carved letters into his skin. They put a platform around his trunk, leaving only a little spot so they could water him.
They even hung a screaming man on one of his arms. The man was soon still, and they took him down. This happened many times over the next 20 years. Some times, men in red coats would come, and fight the townspeople.
