As they realise what I am
Their faces change.
Disgust leaks into features
Makes them ugly
Makes them mean
Gives them creases powered by faeces -
That's the shit I'm stirring up
Judge and judged, there is
No-one... no-one more aware
Of my own faults than me.
But to find my skin a sin?
Look - I'll show my human flaws!
My naked naughties under scrutiny...
But still it's this ethnicity...
You're addicted to these faultless differences:
They become who I am
Entirely
Their hating looks beat on me
Till I'm cowed; They dragged into the sewer
What once was proud
So swallow, earth, swallow
They make me nothing baser now than you.
Take it away, this second-hand shame
For I am tired of wrongs made
Solely by my birth
A tint and pinch of melanin too far.
Skin me so I bleed in peace
But know my standard soul
Cannot be broken and is free...
It will be the race or colour
The fuck it wants to be.
