Whiter shades of pale

Race insults-fast,
half breed, half caste,
Hate crime, racism
Black on black shadism.

Tragic irony,
Black skinned darkie,
Cussing, light skinned,
mixed race,
but black, irrespective of shade.

The risible idiosyncrasies of race,
at play here placed
and the way damaging divisions of shade,
play out in real life, insults made.

Black on black shadism,
cuts both ways - racism
dating back to the divide and conquer world,
field slaves and house slaves -unfurled.

Shades of black and brown,
proliferate on every street and town,
in a way that would have been inconceivable,
20 years ago , then never seen.

We need more inter shade understanding,
within our communities handling,
sensitivity and awareness
People just understand - less.

The darker skinned black
have historically faced more prejudice back,
but today the complex issues of identity and belonging,
affecting mixed race people can be equally debilitating .

dark and light skinned black, they both can,
be victims of prejudice albeit in different ways but from
their fellow man.

Black on black shadism
pales in to insignificance compared with the bigger picture of white on black racism.

We need more unity
irrespective of ones shade or sanity.
In the light of an increased tendency to highlight difference,
we are no different, just
a whiter shade of pale.
