So here's an end to dreams
An end to sighs uncounted
An end to minutes held in trust
And end to a heart of gold -behold its rust...
I say 'the end' because I must.
You see, I'm ending years unborn
That held you in my grateful arm.
You do not feel this heart that's torn
Deserves at least an end that's calm.
I'm ending sentences I held too long.
Cutting off the words unsaid.
Away, the pretty pulse of lover's song;
I'll speak of practicality instead.
I brought you jasmine-scented night.
Your head was turned... You walked on past.
You chose a life of friendly fists,
Where choices sting and bruises last.
Up the aisle you saw me there -
Looked on me with cleared sight.
What hopes filled just a second's pause -
The ghosts of kisses purged in light.
But then he hooked you to his arm...
His hook inside you in his bed.
An Eden entered lovelessly -
A possession and a newlywed.
So here' s an end to foolish goals.
The Waiting Room no longer lit.
There's still some Summer in the year
I may live some small part of it.
I feel that special, dedicated place
Which I once roped off in my heart
Is open now to public feet.
So here's an end. I've left behind the start.
