Warm, Gentle, Conscientious.
These were the first words I used to describe him. When you fall for a guy with characteristics like these, facial features, built and physique become only secondary.
The greatest thing about him maybe is that he's my first guy friend, and he's my first bestfriend. Not that I've never had any friends. I just didn't feel good with the friends I've been with in the distant past.
It was two days before my birthday in February when I answered him with a sincere "yes."
After that fateful day, I began to notice a side of him I didn't knew he had, or maybe a side of me
I also didn't know I had.
•The first date•
On our first date, he called the night before and asked me to dress simply. He came very early the following day, wearing a semi-formal navy blue attire and a grey fedora. I blushed when I saw him. Then, he handed me a medium sized box with floral designs and a huge bow that ran across the lid.
When I opened the box, I just cried. Inside, was a note, and just underneath, was a dress that matched the color of his suit.
"Smile, beautiful." he whispered to my ear.
He wiped the tears that were on the tip of my chin, and told me to wear it.
"Right now?" I asked.
"Yes. Right now. Let's see if you can make this dress more beautiful."
He slowly took my hands which used to be shaky and distrustful. I let him be, took his' in my own, as he filled the spaces of his fingers with each of mine.
There you go. The first date, the first gift, first tears, and the first hand commitment. Who knew that simple things like these, when done by another person can become suddenly different, and so momentous?
•The First Hug•
Summer had just started as well as my first fight with him. I was so scared and even thought that our relationship was plummetting downward.
I cried for quite a while, without calling him. After two days of pointless arguments, we decided to meet up at a nearby park.
It was still too early, but the sun was already out and burning my eyes.
I saw him waiting by a small bench, holding a box of brownies.
"I thought maybe, we can have a picnic today." He said, as the corners of his lips begin to curve upward.
I smiled, and joined him.
He took my hand, and pulled me gently to the ground where he laid out a cloth in the grass.
He sat first, and pulled me into him.
"I'm sorry." he said as he gently cushioned my head with his chest.
I took his arms and held onto them tightly.
"I love you, you know." I said.
"Yeah. I know that. And I assume you know how I feel about you."
"You're heart's been thumping so wildly. Are you nervous that I won't forgive you?" I asked, almost chuckling.
"No. That happens everytime I see you." He said.
I felt stung, but in a good way. How could a guy be like that? It suddenly felt like he was too good for me. I took an aperçu as I slowly lifted my head, and saw a prince.
For the first time, since our first date, I understood why I had given him a yes. With that quick glance, and the sun's better illumination, I saw him clearly, almost transparent. His eyes were a deep brown that complimented his thick wave of hair, and his pale face. He looked inmaculate, and so angelic which went well with his attitude.
I sank back to his chest, and asked him, "Were you that into me before?"
He hesitated before answering and finally managed to get some few out.
"You don't know how hard it was for me before. You were like a pearl buried in the deepest depths of the earth. I even thought it was impossible to talk to you. Top of the batch,
one of the prettiest girls, with a genuinely beautiful smile, and never talks without a reason. Everyone liked you and was desperate to get you..But I was different..I, I loved you." he answered warmly.
"I didn't know that. But, I feel kind of the same. You were too unreachable for me."
I heard him laugh, and then inhaled deeply.
"Here's to the most beautiful girl." he said as he motioned me to take a bite from the brownie he was holding.
I hugged him unexpectedly, and he did the same until we could no longer breathe.
•The First Kiss•
It had exactly been a year since I answered him. In the midst of preparing for college, he asked me out.
"Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise."
He picked me up with his chevy and began to hit the road early in the afternoon.
Ed Sheeran's "The A Team" was playing for us. It was perfect. It calmed be a bit, though I was still nervous and clueless about the whole thing.
The sun was nearly setting when he stopped driving. I went outside, and saw a paradise.
My eyes wandered as he walked towards me.
"Are you afraid?"
"Of what?" I said, unsure.
"I really wanted to go here when I was young. This place holds a very special meaning in my life. I told myself that I'll bring that girl here one day."
I let my fears subside, and allowed the salty air to play with my hair. He took my hand, and walked with me in the sand.
"I've never seen the sun this beautiful."
He turned to face me, searched my face for any more signs of fear, and began to lean close.
My mind went suddenly blank. I just closed my eyes. Then, I felt his lips and the warmth radiating from it. He was breathing smoothly, into me. I unbuttoned my cardigan fearlessly, as we inched closer and closer to the salty water. And with the rest of eternity before us, I let my body melt in with his.
