Young Love
A field of clovers surrounded her feet. The clear sky illuminated her young face, making her blonde hair shine as it flowed in graceful waves. She walked forward in the thick greenery and studied her childhood playing area. Her own green eyes resembled the flourishing plants of her childhood past. A past where she had first fallen in love.
It wasn't love at first sight but more of a gentle friendship that built into something more. They were both still young, being eleven, yet their youth strengthened their bond with friendship. She had been twelve and a half when she finally confessed to her love, Calico. She fell into silence, fearing he would reject her, and began to walk away.
Calico's strong hand kept her from going any farther. "Wait, Rose...," Calico's voice trailed off as he pondered what to say. Rose didn't dare turn around, afraid of what she would see in Calico's brown eyes.
"Let me go," Rose managed to say. "It is okay if you don't feel the same." Tears threatened to spill from her eyes. She held them back, not wanting to cry in front of her childhood friend.
"I don't like you Rose," Calico finally said. Fresh tears began to stain Rose's face. She tried to escape Calico's grasp but he held on. "I don't like you Rose, I love you." He stepped in front of Rose and saw her crying face. "Why are you crying?"
Rose shook her head and wiped away her tears. A blush was slowly reddening her cheeks. She continued to sniff then spoke, "I'm crying because I love you too." She stared into Calico's brown eyes. "I need you Cal."
Calico blushed as the meaning of Rose's words sunk into him. He finally smiled and hugged Rose tightly. Rose returned his embrace and for a moment it was as if they were the only people in the world.
Calico smiled and whispered in Rose's ear. "Stay with me forever."
Rose smiled and buried her face in his chest. "Yes."
[A/N: Again, an old short story of mine I just decided to post.]
