We all know the story of Mary and that of the virgin birth Of Wiseman, stables and donkeys and when Jesus did walk the earth We know of the Holy Father and the son who died for our sins But nothing tells us of Joseph and that’s where our story begins

Little is known about Joseph, both bible and scripture ignore The pain of bringing up Jesus, the struggles he had to endure You see Joseph was stepdad to Jesus; he was in the stable that night Sat there surrounded by shepherds, under the guiding light

But why was the fate of Joseph, to be shunned and pushed to one side A mere footnote in the story of Jesus, his story they could not decide The gospels of Luke and Matthew are the only writings that say Of any mention of Joseph or of the angels that he did obey

These stories are in no way consistent, Luke and Matthew cannot agree Who was the name of the father, who Joseph was born unto thee Matthew names him as Jacob, look at Matthew 1:1 and you'll see But Luke names him as Eli, for that check out Luke 3:23

Joseph was forced in to marriage, read Matthew 1:20 1:21 Because what is conceived in her is from Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son But why on the Donkey to Bethlehem, well in Matthew there already there It’s only in Luke they do travel, due to a census they have to declare

The rest of his life’s a bit fuzzy; it depends on the gospel you read Matthew's is much more exciting, while Luke’s being quite dull indeed Though in Nazareth the family settled and Luke 2:41 to 2:50 does delve With boy Jesus home in the temple, a decision he made at just 12.

That’s the end of the story for Joseph, says the gospels as they were penned He's not at the Wedding at Cana, nor the Passion right at the end Joseph was eventually Sainted, Pope Pius the 9th did proclaim Though for me he is Jesus's stepdad and that's how he'll always remain.
