Here's something to mull over - double acrostics! This Opuss here challenges all of you creative people out there to come up with a mind-boggling double acrostic! It doesn't necessarily have to be a poem. Here's how it's set out (turn the page):
|C O L D —|———— H | [] [] [] [] O | [] [] [] [] T | [] [] [] []
The [] indicate letters which must be filled in.
You may pick your starting words yourself!
Rules:
1) All rows and columns must spell a word in the English or American dictionary (considering there are Americans on here, I believe?)
2) Words must use the letter at the start of their line at the front.
3) Your two starting words must also be in the English or American dictionary.
4) Words cannot go beyond the square, eg. if I put 'CARED' down the first column, it would not be allowed as it would go past the bottom of the square.
5) Words also cannot be too short and cannot be cut off to allow another word to pass.
Point Scoring:
Each correct word (excluding starting words): 1 point
Diagonal words (optional aim): 2 points
Words that use X or Q (not as the beginning letter): 2 points
Two words rhyme: 3 points
Three words rhyme: 5 points
Four words rhyme: 7 points
Two directly associated words (excluding starting words): 4 points
Three directly associated words (excluding starting words): 6 points
Four directly associated words (excluding starting words): 8 points
This challenge is all about strategy. The longer the words you use, the more chance you have of points being earned - however, thinking about the words to put in the square will be more difficult.
Extension: Try a triple acrostic (3 starting words at the top, left and bottom) or a quadruple acrostic (4 starting words on all four sides)!
Good luck!
