I liked Sonic. I wrote this as fan fiction, then stopped as I realised what I was doing. You guys/girls can read it now. :)

Part 1

A lone figure wandered through the forest, rain pattering gently on the shadowy canopy above. His golden-orange fur was drenched in water. His shoes were so soaked they stuck firmly onto his feet, as if they did not want to let go. Different from their usual perked position, the animal's ears had drooped down as far as they could.

The fox sniffed sadly, and fresh tears formed in his eyes. They're gone, he thought to himself. Dad, mum... my brother... the elder... everyone.

Two white-tipped tails trailed behind the mourning fox, drooping in despair at the horror that had just taken place. Forlorn, the fox began to look for a place to sleep the night.

Picking up a thin, wet twig, the fox said to himself, "This is like me. I couldn't protect anyone. Now I'm broken in appearance, snapped at heart." The fox then tried to break the stick, but it just bent and refused to give.

Tossing the stick over his shoulder, the fox carried on walking. I have to find somewhere, the fox thought. To tell the people living there what happened. To warn them of the impending trouble!

And I have to complete Gold's dying wish, the fox thought. Gold... he died saving my life...!

At that, the fox fell to his knees, in internal pain and uncontrollable grief, and cried out to the skies. "HOW COULD YOU?!!!" he yelled. "MY BEST FRIEND AND YOU KILLED HIM!!! WHY?!!!"

The fox's two tails curled up in anger. "YOU WANTED THE GEM!!! WE GAVE IT TO YOU!!! YOU WANTED THE FOOD TAX!!! WE GAVE IT TO YOU!!! YOU WANTED THE MONEY!!! WE GAVE IT TO YOU!!! AND WHAT DO YOU DO?!!!"

There was no answer. Just the rumbling of thunder and the rapidly receding sound of the Doctor's aircraft. The fox pulled himself up, then noticed he had a gaping fissure of a wound in his leg.

"What a cheater," the fox murmured. "Numbing my leg so I wouldn't feel the pain."

The fox sighed. "Before what happened, my mum would have bandaged this," he muttered. "But now..." Taking a tentative step forward, the fox placed his hurt leg down. It collapsed suddenly, and the fox slumped to the hard ground.

Giving up resilience and bravery, the fox sobbed until his eyes could produce no more saddened tears. "THEY'RE ALL GONE!!!" he screamed.

Just then, the fox saw a collection of rocks positioned like a small cave, with a tunnel heading underground. Anywhere's better than out here, the fox thought, limping into the inky darkness.

However, he had only taken several steps before something grabbed his wrists from behind. The fox gasped and turned his head around to see who his captor was. A dome-shaped robotic head glared down at him.

"Y-you!" the fox gaped. "You attacked our village!"

"And now we have all of the survivors," the robot droned, punching the terrified fox in the head.

Before Tails blacked out, he went for a last-ditch signal for rescue. "HEEEELP!!!"

Sonic the Hedgehog fell out of bed for the fourth time in as many days. "Shouts for help always seem to be my wake-up call," he groaned, rubbing his tired eyes. "But it's probably nothing."

Sonic got back into bed and tried to get back to sleep, but he couldn't. Something nagged him at the back of his mind. His old intuition.

Suddenly, Sonic realised the problem. He couldn't hear any more cries.

Sonic leapt out of bed. "Something bad's happened if the victim can't say help more than once!" Sonic grinned, proud for his 'gift' of logic. He rushed out of his sleeping area and into Shadow's, ignoring the sign hung on Shadow's bedroom door saying, 'I am the ultimate life form. If you wish to die, please enter.'

Shadow was snoring as loud as one of Dr. Robotnik's ships. Sonic began to shake Shadow as hard as he could, exclaiming, "Shadow! Shadow, wake up you snoring faker! We've gotta help someone!"

"Ugh..." Shadow grumbled. "Just let me sleep. I don't care much of your false alarms." Shadow rolled over to lie on his stomach and put his face in his pillow.

Sonic sprinted out of Shadow's room and into Silver's. "SILVER, FOR SOMEONE'S SAKE, WAKE UP!"

"Gyaah!" Silver shouted, sitting bolt upright in bed. Then he noticed Sonic. "Bother Shadow instead," he groaned, settling back down and snuggling into the covers.

"Darn those lazybones!" Sonic whispered to himself. "Well, if no-one's gonna help me help the guy, I suppose I'll have to do it myself!"

Grabbing the key, inserting it in the lock, and twisting it as if his life depended on it, Sonic ran out of the door and into the wilderness.

"False alarm, my foot," he grinned. "At last, some proper action in the neighbourhood." Sonic put on a burst of speed and spurred himself to the scene.

Tails, unconscious with his wrists tied behind his back and a slack noose prepared around his neck, was dreaming. Although it was more thinking back to previous events, it was still dreaming.

Tails' active mind rewinded itself to the point where his village was under attack...

The square was quiet while everyone paid their respects to a man that had passed away the night before. As the elder recited the ritual speech for the dead, there was the uncanny rumble of thunder.

The funeral paused as the congregation checked the sky for clouds. There were none.

The crowd broke into fevered discussion. Was a storm coming from over the horizon so great you could hear it already?

The over the horizon part was correct as a flaming bomb whistled into the elder's house and incinerated it within 30 seconds.

"It's Robotnik!" a citizen shouted as she pointed to an incoming fleet of ships.

"But -" the elder said. "We did what he asked!"

"He wanted something else he didn't bother to tell us about!" another person said. "That cheater!"

The man was immediately silenced as a laser shot cut a clean hole through him. The man slumped to the ground, dead.

"Swat-bots as well!" the elder choked. "Robotnik's going all out!"

Chaos ensued as more people fell from laser blasts. The flaming bombs were landing everywhere, setting everyone's houses on fire. A particular woman rushed towards hers. "Miles!" she shouted.

A man, the woman's husband, rushed out and held her back. "There's nothing we can do, Melody," he said.

"I know, Skye," Melody sobbed. "I just hope Gold comes back soon."

There was suddenly a rush of wind, and a golden hedgehog was standing next to the couple. "So what's wrong?" Gold asked.

Melody simply pointed to her fiery house. There was no time for reunion. "My little Miles is in there!" she cried.

Gold wasted no time, kicking down the door and entering the inferno.

Inside, Miles 'Tails' Prower had been playing with his two favourite toys, 'Poncho', a small, soft rag and 'Winky' the teddy bear, when he realised he couldn't breathe well. Smoke descended on the poor child. Tails coughed furiously, but the smoke was beginning to kill him.

Then his bedroom door crashed open, and there stood Gold, Tail's best friend ever.

"Yes, I'm back," Gold smiled warmly. "Now let's get you out!"

Taking hold of Tails' hand, Gold led him through the burning house and out into open air. After Tails had quickly recovered, Gold asked, "Anything else?"

"Poncho... Winky...!" Tails hacked. "Please!"

Gold turned turned and saw the house beginning to collapse. "Very well," he said. His red eyes glowed brighter than ever before, then suddenly - time stopped.

Some people were paused in mid-scream. Others were frozen looking over their dead relatives' bodies. Robotnik's ships were still. It was like looking at a gruesome painting.

Gold quickly hurried into the collapsing house and into Tails' bedroom. The flames didn't burn him - their heat had been taken away along with the flow of time.

Bending down and scooping up Tails' cuddlies, Gold rushed out of the house and dropped the toys in front of Tails' pained face.

This time-freeze won't last forever, and my life energy shall be significantly depleted, Gold thought. But anything for Tails.

And I think I'll have a bit of fun, Gold added. Nothing like a big bang.

Gold speedily positioned all of the enemy ship's guns to point at Robotnik's mothership, and turned all the flaming bombs towards it as well.

Pubbing his gloved hands, Gold grinned. Perfect. His red eyes glowed again, and time restarted.

As Robotnik's mothership was sent down by the embarrassed pilots of the other ships, everybody cheered. Nobody noticed Gold fall to the ground -except Tails.

"Gold!" Tails cried, crawling over to his friend and forgetting he'd just seen his toys right under his nose. "Are you -"

"I'm fine," Gold said. "That time-freeze really took away a lot of my strength."

"Time-freeze?" Tails inquired, confused.

"I freeze time, which is why I can sometimes do things so quickly," Gold explained, nodding towards the crashing mothership.

"That was me," he sighed. "Frozen objects maintain their potential momentum. As soon as I end the time-freeze, they carry on moving. And yes, I can move things in a time-freeze."

Tails stopped himself from asking the answered question. Instead, he asked, "Did you get Poncho and Winky?"

Gold pointed to where Tails had been about a minute ago. "There," he groaned.

Tails rushed over to his toys, picked them up, then hurried back to his fallen comrade. But before he could reach Gold, he felt the shot of a laser blast singe the fur on his leg off his skin.

The swat-bot that had suddenly appeared in front of Gold laughed in a metallic voice. "That was just a warning shot," the bot pronounced. "Now prepare to be roboticized in the name of Dr. Robotnik!"

As Tails fell backwards, cowering, Gold heaved himself up onto his feet and saw the trouble. Anything for Tails, Gold thought.

Including sacrifice.

With a loud cry, Gold launched himself at the swat-bot using his signature spinning air strike attack. He ripped a huge hole in the middle of the robot. Howev
