The Final Pokémon League!

"There it is!" I shouted in excitement. "League Island!"
My Riolu beside me chirped in excitement. It was obvious he was full of anticipation - just like his trainer.
The boat's foghorn sounded as we approached the location of the Unova Pokémon League. This would be a day to remember.
I had managed to get 8 badges from all the Pokémon Gyms in Unova. All of the battles were hard - but my Pokémon friends pulled through. We did it together, no doubt about it. And now, thanks to my Pokémon, we were in the Pokémon League!
The boat pulled up to the quayside and opened its doors to the Pokémon Village. Picking up my bags, I rushed out into the colourful throng of people and Pokémon. There were snack stalls, shops full of Pokémon merchandise - and of course, the essential Poké Mart and the Pokémon Center.
A boy to the left of me gasped. "It looks so awesome!" he said. He was Callum - we were friends from Nuvema Town and we had both received our first Pokémon together. I chose Snivy - his compassionate nature and his strive to win but always have fun really appealed to me. Callum had gone for Tepig - but seeing as Tepig had been the only one available, there hadn't been much choice. Still, Callum had really liked the cheeky bovine, and even now, his Emboar liked to joke about.
One thing - you may be thinking how I got my Riolu. Well, there was a Pokémon Breeder outside the Day Care on Route 3. He gave me and Callum a rare Pokémon Egg. Mine hatched into a Riolu - Callum's hatched into a Tyrogue, which had evolved into a Hitmontop. However, I liked Riolu just the way he was, and I thought he thought the same, so I had bought an Everstone for him.
Callum's Emboar grunted in agreement. The great hulking boar stood high on its hind legs and towered over everyone present.
"Right," I said. "Let's see if we can get to the Pokémon Center to grab our card key."
Callum nodded, and we both ran to the huge building on the right of the complex, Callum's Emboar clearing the path as everybody jumped out of the way of the flaming pig.
As we reached the door of the registration building, I heard a voice. "So you've won 8 badges as well, huh?" it said. "Well, you'd better get ready when I kick you out of the first round! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" The laugh was followed by a small grunt.
Callum giggled. "That laugh is SOOOO lame!" he said.
"And if you ever hear a lame laugh," I said. We both turned around and said, "IT'S SANDRA!"
The blue-haired girl in front of us frowned. The golden-blue Pokémon next to her dipped his horn down, pointed it at Callum's Emboar, and growled with quiet intimidation. It was Sandra's fully evolved starter Pokémon, Samurott. He stared menacingly at the huge boar.
"Are you insulting me?" Sandra growled angrily.
Callum's Emboar hid behind Callum and tried to make himself look as small as possible. The only thing he didn't like was a powerful Water type. "As a matter of fact, yes," Callum said, ignoring Emboar's behaviour. Emboar shook his head, not wanting to get into another fight.
Sandra frowned again. "I wouldn't suggest you do so." She whipped her sky-coloured hair and walked off, her Samurott giving Emboar one more dangerous look and then strutting after his mistress.
"Wow, that was short," I said once Sandra was out of earshot.
"Tell me about it," Callum agreed.
"Usually she would challenge you to a battle."
"And thrash me."
"Yep, and thrash you."
Callum sighed. "I don't know how she does it. I mean, we both have 8 badges - we should, in theory, be evenly matched."
"Yeah," I said. "But why don't we register first? I've got enough Pokédollars to get one of those huge, nicely furnished one-bedroom villas, complete with a training ground."
"No way!" Callum exclaimed. "Just how much do you have?!"
"If you really want to know, £99,999,999," I said absently.
"Are you serious?!" Callum's eyes looked like they were about to pop right out of their sockets.
"There was this guy in a town who was a maniac about ancient artefacts."
"So you brought your whole collection from your bookshelf?"
"No, I just posted them to the address he gave me. I kept the Fossils, though. He sent me the £99,900,000 when he received the packages. Apparently, those crowns I found were worth £300,000 each. I've heard they're now on display at the Nacrene Museum, along with the other stuff. And that tiny meteorite was priceless according to the man. He paid £99,000,000 for it. And there were those pretty stones which always seemed to glow when I went near them. £200 each."
"Now that," Callum said, "is awesome."
"Yeah, it's pretty neat," I said. "But I think instead of standing around here, we should go and actually register before everything's packed."
"Right," Callum said. But his voice sounded dreamy. He was probably thinking of going digging on Route 17's sandy beaches. Still, we walked through the automatic doors and found ourselves at the back of thankfully a quite small queue. We were at the registration desk in literally no time at all.
"Alec Victory. A one-bedroom complex with en-suite bathroom, TV room and training arena, please," I said to the member of staff behind the desk, also handing her my luggage.
"Still like your surname," Callum teased.
"I know you like my surname," I replied.
"That would be £1,200,000, please," the uniformed lady said.
As I started to pay up, the receptionist told me, "You will be competing in the secondary battleground for the first round. We hope you enjoy your time in Pokémon Village, and remember - always have fun, no matter what happens!"
Once I had given her the money, she handed me the card key and the arena key. Callum and I thanked her, then set off to our apartment.
While we were walking down the main stall road, my Riolu started to tug at my sleeve. "What is it?" I asked him. Then I felt it.
I sensed energy - a peculiar energy that I had never felt in my entire life. It was a bit like smelling the aroma of my plum jam toast my mum made for me when I was at home, except it was more of a tingling feeling. It seemed to be emanating from a small wooden carving of a Riolu in a shop window. My Riolu was looking at it with a face of wonder. He turned round, and as soon as I saw his pleading eyes, I knew I had to buy this for him.
Callum walked up next to me and took a look at the shop sign. "'Items for Pokémon'," he read. "Right to the point, but no brand name or whatever, like..." Callum took a look around at the other shop names. "Like... like... err... ah! Gordonize's PokéJewellery!"
I nodded. We both walked into the shop, the bell ringing as we opened the door. A shabby, grey-faced man came out from behind the dusty counter. "You have come for the wooden Riolu, I suppose, Alec," the old person predicted.
"Actually... we did," I said, curious as to how the man knew I wanted to buy it. Why the old man knew my name was a question that washed over me, and I didn't take the slightest notice.
"The item you seek is worth £10,000," the old man said in his raspy voice. "I will get it for you." The man opened the back wall of the shelf and picked out the figure. He handed it to me in exchange for the £10,000. "Take good care of it," he smiled.
I gave the figure to Riolu. He carefully took it, and treating it as a mother would treat a new-born baby, he hugged it close to his chest. I could sense his happiness. Then a thought struck me.
"Sir," I said to the old man. "May I take a look around?"
"Why, be my guest, Alec!" he exclaimed. "It's been a long time since anybody had a browse in my lowly shop."
I nodded, then realised that Callum was not in the shop with me. I turned to the door. Callum was attempting to pull his Emboar through the small entrance. "Help?" he grunted.
"Pleasure," I answered. I reached round Emboar's huge body and poked a specific place on his tummy. He jumped back and finally got out of his predicament.
"Next time, do it sideways," I reminded Callum. He smiled the smile of an embarrassed 12-year-old - which he was.
I turned back to the shelves. I began to walk down one of the aisles, when I caught sight of a strange stone. It was mostly dark, but there was a multi-coloured stripe diagonally across it. "What's this?" I asked the old shopkeeper.
"Ah," the old man said, "That is a Miracle Stone. When held by a Pokémon, all of that Pokémon's moves are super-effective against the opponent, even if the opponent has an immunity to the move's type. The cost is a reasonable £5,000. Were you thinking of buying it?"
I took a Poké-ball from my belt and opened it. The energy inside materialised into a fox-like Pokémon. It was Zorua.
I picked Zorua up and showed him the stone. "How would you like to have that?" I asked him gently. Zorua sniffed the mineral, then nuzzled it. I gave £5,000 to the shopkeeper. Zorua took the stone and carefully stored it in his fur.
"Right, Serperior next," I said to myself, opening up another Poké-ball from my belt and returning Zorua. A huge, leafy serpent appeared.
"Right, Serperior," I said to my Pokémon. "We're on a shopping spree right now, so pick anything you want."
Serperior immediately slithered down the far left aisle. I quickly followed.
When I rounded the corner, I saw Serperior looking at a huge 'target dummy'. I realised that Serperior wanted to train his low Attack and Special Attack stat. I bought that for £300.
Next up was my Margikarp, who I bought for £500 from a man on vacation in Accumula Town. I, for one, did not allow him to evolve as I knew I could bring out something special in him. When I saw the pack of Water Discs I knew that that was the answer. The pack was £2,000, due to the rarity and value of the discs. I popped
