Camp Z

Chapter 2: I'll do it.

My mum was as shocked as I was. 'You WANT to go?' she said, surprised. 'Yes, I do' I replied. 'I read the leaflet that you put under my door, and I decided that if I'm gonna go anyway, I might as well enjoy it'.
From that point onwards that day, my mum started being a lot nicer to me!
Since the camp started tomorrow, I had to get packing. My mum helped (for a change) and after about an hour of sorting and packing, we were done. All of my stuff was tightly packed inside a hiking rucksack, with my roll mat attached to the side, and my sleeping bag tied to the bottom. I went to sleep that night feeling tired, exited and nervous all at the same time (plus a little resentment for still being left out from the family holiday, but I tried to forget about that!)
*
When I woke up the next morning, I lay in bed wondering if I should stick my fingers down my throat and be sick, or whether I should jump out of bed and attack the day with complete enthusiasm. I decided on half way in between (I have a talent for choosing the third option out of two!). The day started off perfectly. The sun was shining, the sky was completely cloud free and the milk wasn't off! (another first).
After an enjoyable breakfast of rice crispies and (fresh) milk, I went to have a shower. (the main reason being that I probably wouldn't have another one for a month. You never know, they might have showers there, but I didn't want to take the risk!)
The water was warm (OMG!), so I spent half an hour happily soaking myself in the warm, soapy water. While I dried off, I thought about the next month. It was going to be tiring, exiting, tough and enjoyable (I hoped!).
I would probably make lots of friend, since we would be on a field together for a month!
I went back downstairs to find my mum and sister standing in the front door. 'Come ON James!' my mother said with plenty of frustration in her voice. 'We have to go NOW.'
I snatched up my bag, pulled my shoes on, walked outside and got into the car. I lived in the middle of Leeds. The camp was in the middle of nowhere. This was going to be a long journey. I tried to ignore my little sister, Chloe, who was trying to engage me in a game of travel monopoly. I hate that game so much! The travel version I mean. The bits just go everywhere and they always get lost under the seats. She seems to like it though, even though she's only a year younger than me.
Anyway, about three and a half hours later, we turned off the motorway, and onto a small, windy and muddy road that lead onto a large field, surrounded by trees. A quick inspection of the field told us that the other children who were to be sharing this field with me for the coming month were already here. I had arrived at the summer camp.
