One swear word...
-----------------------
The streets were empty. We were alert but they were still empty. The zombies hadn't reached us yet. The tower was in sight, it wasn't too far from where we had set up camp, and we were walking in a diamond. Rot was at the back, as usual, because he had a sharp eye and finger and could walk practically backwards. It was me and Dal on the sides and then Set at the front. She was our navigator, she always knew what way to go.
"I was a bored kid. I'd travel round all the time. Just walk places and find hidden stuff" She had told us when we were put into this group in training. None of them knew that I had asked for them personally.
"I can't believe Ger let you bring us out." Set was saying as the tower came into view.
I just shrugged. "No biggie, we all need food. Now I'm gonna go in first then call out if it's safe, okay?" I said as I clipped a torch to my gun. They all nodded. They hated going into the tunnel first and I didn't blame them.
The tunnel was near the tower. It was just a building that led down into some underground tunnels which led to the tower. It was where the drivers delivered food sometimes but Marcus kept it unmanned so it was perfect for us.
I stepped round the broken door and into darkness. Lifting my gun up, I motioned for the others to come in. As they shuffled in, I made my way to the stairs. They were large stairs, as if in a train station or something, and I took them two at a time with the others closely behind me.
This was the scary bit now. The darkness. And straight away I saw a figure. I held a hand up to the others and levelled my gun.
"Hey Zom" Rot called out. We were all prepared but when the figure turned round, we were shocked.
"Who you calling a zombie?" He replied in his upperclass voice, his own gun pointing at us.
"Alright alright, lets not get violent, shall we?" Dal called out, lowering his gun.
"So you're the ones that have been stealing the food?" He said.
"Can you really blame us, mate? There are starving kids." Rot said with more compassion than I had ever heard before. He wasn't one for sadness but this had affected him deeply.
"Please, Lucas, we can't have another one die" Set replied.
"No" Lucas snapped.
I stepped forward, walking towards him. He aimed his gun at me, hands shaking. He looked scared.
"You won't shoot me and even if you do your foot will slip and it'll go in the ceiling. If you shoot then a bunch of zombies will come out and eat us all." I said as I took the gun slowly from his hand.
"How do you know?" He stuttered.
"Look around, Lucas. There are zombies in the dark watching us. Either you give us food now or we take it and leave you for the zombies, that is entirely up to you." I said.
They all said I was too calm sometimes. Like now. Surrounded by zombies who were salivating over us and I was standing there being calm.
Lucas nodded. "I'll help you" He whispered.
"Good choice." I replied handing back the gun. "Now, don't make any sudden movements"
"Ah fuck this!" Rot called out then shot one in the head. I laughed, typical him.
"Thanks, Rot. Ready guys?" I called out as they descended on us.
