Le Poème

(I hope the woman this is for isn't on Opuss ... I'm sure I'd know though because my mum would have been told "oh, my friend uses that too!" ... Wouldn't she? ... Just asked my mum and she said "No, don't be silly, she said what is opuss is it a disease" haha, so we're in the clear!)

We started life together at wonderful Farringtons school.
We were the 3 amigos and we thought we knew it all.
Karen liked tea-times when she scoffed the bloody lot,
I preferred the break times, when the buns were warm and hot.
You would slip away, your favourite place to go,
Round the back of the playing field, to the pig sty you would go.

A time I remember well, when I did have a fall,
My little friend Rachel, who had a helping hand in that,
I was shoved hard and suddenly I went splat.

We went to Ventures together in the local Methodist hall,
Good times we had there, by everyone and all.

One day 2 bikers came to see us, from Wales they did come,
To take us up the high street for a little shot of rum,
Flying up the high street, on there bikes we did go,
Straight across the roundabout, with you and me in tow.

Yorkshire was another trip with skating on the ice,
Snowball fights, which was great fun and very very nice.
I enjoyed all this until once evening, when another member mentioned,
He would like to take me out and told me his intentions,
The answer was a definite NO, I did not like him so,
He didn't talk to after that as I had told him just to go.

We shared a flat together, what wonderful times we had,
With the Daylights round the corner, which was our local, not to far
Eddie was the landlords, while Jenny ran the bar,
Locks-in we did have, many many times and more
Sometimes we drank too much but always wished for more.

Our working life's started in good Old London Town,
You were in insurance, working in old Regent Street,
While I was just up the road, which I thought was pretty neat.

Marriage was to follow, with babies after that,
Our kids mean the world to us, I'm definitely sure of that.

We have all now turned 50, with many years to go,
So here's to the next 50, when we will definitely, be more slow.

Corfu was a trip, when we had lots of fun
You and me together, most of the day in the glorious sun.
Cocktails were our favourite tipple, when he would drink a few,
We tried our best not to drink a lot and tried to stick to two.
Pina colardas was the one for us, and renamed the drink
Something that we found funny but only for us to no I think.
