Red Cape: Part14

I stayed on the ground, too scared to move, and tried to slow down my breathing. I wondered what they would do if they found me but I shut the thought down because all scenarios ended badly for me. I just focused my mind on Red and I wasn't far from her, I could get to her.
That's when I saw the wolves leave her tent and, with them walking away from me, I saw my opportunity.
I ran fast. I had only ran that fast once, when Red had told me to run when she was first taken. I skidded into her tent and let the flaps of the door fall behind me. She was there, as I had suspected, but she was looking at me like I was stupid. Completely idiotic.
Then I realised. It was a trap. I had been a fool and had acted before thinking but I ran towards Red, who shook her head, and carried on running. I barged through the back of the tent and carried on running.
Was I mad? Yes! But I needed to carry on running.
"Get high" Red's voice whispered and I was about to growl at her when I realised she had a point. The only wolf I had ever seen in a tree was Scruff and he was, well, different. That, of course, got me thinking about Scruff as I climbed the nearest tree. I wondered where he was but then I heard a howl and felt compelled to howl back. So I did.
It would tell the other wolves of my whereabouts but it also told Scruff who, in the still of midday, I could hear running my way. He was closer than I hoped so I howled again, a longer one than before.
"I heard you first time" He called from somewhere behind me, amusement in his voice.
That didn't last long because, before I could realise what was going on, whimpers erupted into the air. My heart sped at the sound. My mate was in trouble and the once hibernating wolf inside of me growled viciously. I wasn't scared when I jumped down from the tree to face the wolves who had my mate because, really, they had made a huge mistake and I was their worst nightmare.
