Until My Last Breath

I remember when you were standing there, the summer breeze blowing your soft blonde hair. Your brown eyes were shining, like they never had before. You was watching a point in the distance, where the sky met the sea. You were curling your feet in the soft sand, in a world of your own, and you were smiling slightly.
You didn't know I was watching you but my hand was on the small of your back and you didn't shrink away from my touch.
"Thank you" You told me, making me smile, but you kept your eyes on the distance.
"There's no need" I had replied, taking your hand.
You looked at me now, a look of pure joy on your face. "I love you, never forget that" You had smiled.
My answering smile felt huge. "I'm going to marry you one day, Paloma Herring"
You let me kiss your hand before you answered, "Is that a promise, Joshua Harton?"
My eyes linked with yours and we held the look. I nodded, making you smile wider, then I said something that made you cry. "Until my last breath" I had nodded then got down on one knee, right there in the sand.
