Valentines Day

This idea came to me on the bus this morning. Loosely based on people I know and such, but not true :). Oh and a few swear words in it ...

Valentines day is a cruel, cruel day.

Just like how cruel you are. And you know you are too. How did you feel on the bus today? How did you feel when you sat next to me this morning?

I felt amazing. Scared. You sat beside me on the bus when before you had tried to keep as far away from me as possible. How else would that make me feel?

And when you turned those green eyes on me and smiled, my heart melted.

"Hey" was what you said.
"Hi" I replied quietly.

You knew I liked you. Thanks to her. Bet you were wondering why I was friends with her, why I am friends with her, and why we are so close. She's pretty, thin and popular. Why would she be friends with me?
Really it's because she's one of those people you can't help but love. Bubbly, dippy but a great friend.

Then there was you. Chatting away to me on the bus like we were old friends. Like we were best friends.

"I've wanted to talk to you for a while" I knew that was a lie. Or thought it was. Unless you were shy?

No. You wasn't shy, I knew that. You were a dick, they said. They said I shouldn't date you. They said you'd ruin me. Ruin me? I was sweet, innocent, and they said you'd change me. I wasn't so sweet, like everyone said, but they didn't know that.

When we got off the bus you gave me your number, with the question of "will you be my valentine?" and left me to go meet your mates. I was relieved. So so relieved.

But I kept on asking myself, "do I text you?"

No. Too soon.

As I turned the corner, you came out of the shop ahead. You and your friends were laughing. About? I didn't know.

Then I heard them. They were laughing about me. About how you made me believe you actually felt that way ... That way about me.

"I can't believe she actually believed you. Idiot" The girl said. I'd never liked her. She always seemed to judge me with her eyes, give me a rating out of ten which was probably low. She seemed to glare at me and I didn't like her. Or her boyfriend, who piped up with a,
"Yeah, have you seen her too?"

You smiled at them. It was dazzling. Perfect. It was then you realised I was behind you.

"Shit. Wait!" You called after me.

It was too late. I had heard enough. My tears were already threatening to spill over. You had to watch my back as I walked away.

"Fuck off" You called to someone behind me.
"You're making a mistake" He replied.
"No, I'm not" You said, closer than I thought.

I didn't stop. I carried on. You chased after me. Pulled me into your arms. No, this wasn't happening. I pulled back. I tried to pull back but you were too strong.

"Get the fuck off me" I growled. I wasn't one for swearing. Only when it was needed. And it was needed this time.

You explained it to me. Everything. Said you thought it was funny. Then realised when you were talking to me that it was a mistake. They didn't dare you to give me your number. You did it because you liked me.

But why would you like me?

Why me?

They were right after all. You did ruin me. You turned me into a heartless bitch.
