The main office was a small room, with three desks in. Each desk had a woman sat at it, typing away on their computers. I knocked gently on the door, which was propped open by a doorstop. All there heads looked up in unison, which made me feel uneasy.
"um, hi, um, I'm Abby, erm, it's my first day here today..." I finally managed to get out.
They all stated at me, looked me up and down and then two of them who were sat opposite each other met eyes awkwardly.
"um, I was told to come to the main office to get some stuff" I shuffled on my feet, and for a horrifying second thought I might have come to the wrong place! A lady sat in the corner of the room furthest away from me who leapt up out of her seat making me jump backwards in surprise. She was tall, with blonde hair all pulled back into a tight bun, fair skin and deep brown eyes. She was wearing a pale pink blouse tucked into a knee length grey skirt, with small business like heels. She smiled as she fumbled with some papers on her desk and clopped over to me.
"hello dear, right this here is your time table, and this is a map of the school grounds. The areas marked red are off limits, the green areas are where students are allowed at all times and the amber areas are where students can go during breaks" I took the pieces of paper from her and folded them in half
"thanks, uh, where do I go first?" the lady smiled at me again,
"right, first you go to registration, I will take you to meet your form tutor, when you are there she will give you someone to shadow for the day so you can get your bearings of the place, and form a rough idea of what it's like here, okay?" she stepped into the corridor and ushered for me to follow. Clip clop clip clop clip clop. Her shoes were doing my head in. We went through two giant double doors at the end of the corridor, and turned to the right, all the walls were a dull grey colour, and the floors were an awful grey blue. The designer must normally design prisons, as that is exactly what this place was like. There were a few blocks of lockers dotted along the walls, painted red, but most of the doors were smashed in, and had vulgar graffiti all over them. The tall blonde office lady came to a sudden halt outside one of the classroom doors, so sudden I almost walked straight into her!
"this is your form base, where you will come to register every morning before lessons, you spend 20 minutes in here, and you use the time to talk to people, organise yourself for the day and so on. Your form tutor is a teacher who registers you every morning, and is someone you can go to if ever you have any trouble with anything. Okay, ready?" I nodded and inhaled deeply. Here we go again.
The moment I set foot in the classroom, everybody went silent. Every single person was staring at me. Great. After a few seconds a plump lady, with short wispy hair and glasses rose from behind a desk facing the class.
"you must be Abby! Welcome, welcome! I am mrs Kennedy. Everyone, this is Abby, I want you all to make her feel welcome and comfortable, help her learn her way around!" oh. My. God. How embarrassing, could she have made it any more awkward for me?!
"right Florence, I would like you to come here for a second please." a girl stood up from her seat and pottered over to us. She had blonde hair that fell to her shoulders in loose curls, tanned skin and deep sea blue eyes, she smiled at me warmly,
"hello, I'm Florence,"
"uh, hi, I'm Abby..." I smiled awkwardly back at her.
"right Abby, I would like you to shadow Florence for the day, she will take you around, and introduce you to everyone."
Okay, at least it didn't seem I was 'shadowing' one of the bitchy popular girls, I would have probably hit my head on the walls...
I trailed after Florence to the seat next to her in the classroom...
"are you nervous?" Florence was looking at me,
"er not really, I've done this many times now... One thing though, is there anyone I should really avoid?"
"uh, yeah, well, I would personally avoid Sarah. She is the girl everyone wants to be in school, and she hates it when people get more attention than her..." great. Sarah's always hated me.
"is she in your first class?" I asked
"uh, let me see, biology, yeah she's in my biology!" even better.
There was a loud ringing noise, and when it sounded everyone in the room grabbed their things and made a run for the door.
"have a good day everyone! And good luck today Abby," mrs Kennedy called out.
The biology laboratory was freezing cold, and I wished I had brought a jacket with me. I perched on a stool next to Florence.
After a most students had settled the door flew open and in came who I could only assume was Sarah. She was very tall, and had one of those perfect hourglass figures, which she was showing off proudly. She had that perfect natural tanned skin, and long brunette hair which tumbled down in waves to just below her bust. She had huge brown eyes which darted around the classroom until they landed on me. Her perfectly plucked eyebrows shot up her forehead. A smirk formed on her face. She strutted across and placed herself in the seat next to me. Florence looked at me sympathetically, I met her eyes, before facing Sarah.
"hi, I'm Abby." I introduced myself, offering my hand.
"humph, I know who you are." she spoke disgustedly, and turned her nose up at my hand.
"nice to meet you, Sarah."
"ha, not so nice meeting you. What exactly are you wearing?"
"clothes, do you like them?" I spoke sarcastically, Florence jabbed me in the leg. I glanced at her, she had a look of worry on her face. Sarah pulled out a bottle of water from her bag, unscrewed the top and had a sip.
"are you being sarcastic with me dear? Trying to pick fights on your first day, eh? That's brave. We will see how good you are with comebacks later. Break sound good to you?"
"challenge accepted." I met Sarah's eyes smiling. Oh god, what had I gotten myself into now?!
