If Opuss Was a Country

In this Sunday's edition of The Observer, there was a little section on the charts and puzzles page entitled "If Facebook was a Country". It compared the amount of users to the populations of countries in the physical world (in case you were interested, Facebook would have been third behind India and China.) However, I can't help but think what political systems these "social network countries" would have in place.

Now, at first thought, I would have said Opuss was communist, as everyone is so accommodating and sharing. However, the ranking system has made me feel differently. In Facebook Country, although friend count matters to some people, it seems to matter the least. Twitter has followers which is quite competitive. However, it is not as competitive as the ranking system on Opuss. Perhaps a bit of competition is healthy for us writers, but some may see it as off-putting, perhaps upsetting those who aren't ranked (I'm not ranked yet but it doesn't phase me much). Do you agree? Like if you do, and if not, comment as to why. Thanks. :)

Hmmm...

Looking at the top listings here, most seem to be for Opusses that are one sentence long.

Bandwagonage

So, i'm totally jumping (without any sign of remorse) on the 'thanking followers' bandwagon driven by @Jamtots and @Nom. Thanks to the 200 people who've followed me since I started.

Abandoned Accounts

Abandoned Opuss accounts always upset me. Users forget or become bored and within days this beautiful app can become redundant to even the biggest fan of Opuss.

My Thoughts (1)

It's been away for sometime, which I've noticed myself. I was struggling for something to write. Wanted something witty and clever that people would like.

My Time Here Is Done- PLEASE READ

Opuss has been a friend of mine ever since I downloaded the app. Writing is half of me, I cherish it so much. Unfortunately, after hurting events today, I am going to have to delete my Opuss account.

Not everyone on Opuss cares about rank, I don't!

@crowncottage I'm sure you're right. I think the sort of people that would do Opuss are the sort of people that care more about creative freedom than rank. But the fact it's there at all was what I was trying to get at.

@Cabernax don't you think though that it will give an extra buzz to some people? It doesn't do any harm really I suppose.

@crowncottage Yeah. I mean, if I got into the ranks I'd be really excited. I just wanted to see what people would think. I was hypothesising, rather than stating my opinion. As they don't matter hugely to me at the moment, like yourself, it doesn't bother me greatly. And, as you said, it doesn't do any harm.

@Cabernax i like the competition :) but im not overly bothered, as long as tgose above me have good stuff
