In this Sunday's edition of The Observer, there was a little section on the charts and puzzles page entitled "If Facebook was a Country". It compared the amount of users to the populations of countries in the physical world (in case you were interested, Facebook would have been third behind India and China.) However, I can't help but think what political systems these "social network countries" would have in place.
Now, at first thought, I would have said Opuss was communist, as everyone is so accommodating and sharing. However, the ranking system has made me feel differently. In Facebook Country, although friend count matters to some people, it seems to matter the least. Twitter has followers which is quite competitive. However, it is not as competitive as the ranking system on Opuss. Perhaps a bit of competition is healthy for us writers, but some may see it as off-putting, perhaps upsetting those who aren't ranked (I'm not ranked yet but it doesn't phase me much). Do you agree? Like if you do, and if not, comment as to why. Thanks. :)
