"Becca..." I whispered. I took a hold of her hand. I flinched from the coldness. I took her hand in between my two hands and rubbed them together trying to create heat.
"Becca...your so cold. Can you hear me?"
Still no response. I squeezed her hand. I felt her move her hand just a little bit, just enough for me to notice.
"Squeeze my hand if you can hear me." I said just loud enough for someone across the room to hear. Then all of a sudden I felt it. She squeezed my hand, not that tight though. She must still be weak.
"Becca, can you talk?" I asked
I sat in silence for a few minutes.
"Annie..." she said.
"Omg, thank you god so much! Becca are you all right? How do you feel?" I shot questions at her.
"I'm fine...just a little..tired." She whispered.
"Do you want me to get the doctor?" I asked.
"No, I'm fine...for now" she said. I could see her mouth rising up into a little smile but she was still to weak to smile a full smile.
"Do you want me to go now?"
"No, stay...until I fall asleep, please."
"Of course." I answered.
I sat there for awhile until I heard her breathing slow down and quiet down.
I got up and went back out to the waiting room. Next Carmen went in and Taylor went in next. Then everyone else. When everyone was done visiting. I went back in.
"Becca...it's me again" I smiled.
"Hey I was just about to go back to sleep, it's been a long day."
"Oh, that's ok. I was just going to say good bye and yes it has been a long day, a very long day."
"Are you going to come over tomorrow? The doctor said I'm going to be in here for at least 2 more days."
"Of course I will. Ok,well I should go now. Bye." I tempted to give Becca a hug. She wrapped her good arm around me and whispered in my ear.
"Everything is going to be fine, I promise." She smiled at me as best as she could. I turned around and walked out the door and headed home with my mom.
