They always told me guard my heart
For that is where my lifeblood starts.
I learnt that lesson the hard way round,
Learnt that moral with a frown.
So I made a promise grave,
Not to be their open slave.
I go out at the grey dawn
And search for all things lost and forlorn,
A wire coat hanger or maybe seven,
Bike handlebars with the bell still on them,
A beartrap as a booby device
To protect it's treasure extra nice,
Some duck down to make it not so harsh
On my little limping heart,
Some moss as well to make it cosy enough
So it doesn't get cold and tough,
A few trinkets to show it off,
Wrap it up in silken cloth.
Wire cutters and pliers from the shed toolbox,
From these things I found make an iron box.
A little cage, not as a stopper
For love flowing out but to stop graverobbers
Taking the ruby I should have protected and prized
Long before our love boat capsized.
Fashion a lock and a tiny key
From a snuffbox and some cogs and wheels,
There it will stay in it's little cage
Beating away 'til the end of the age.
No-one ever see's from other's points of view,
It sounds harsh but that is true.
They're always more concerned with there own protection
While I went around throwing out affection.
No-one sees through my own eyes,
They all just perfect their disguise.
So now I'll become just like them
Preserving my own precious gem,
Protecting my own injured heart.
If I don't you'll only tear me apart.

for everything you do
flows from it.
