I never thought I'd be that girl,
The one whose life could be walked through with shoes.
It seemed absurd that a life could be reduced
To such sole meaning,
Such frivolity.
But now I look through my wardrobe and I see
It's me,
There, in canvas, leather and rubber,
Laces tying up a life
Frayed at the ends.
Converse shoes
For all the times I've ran,
Sometimes softly kicking up cloud-dust
Others laboured, frightened, breathless.
Ugg boots
Worn in, sloping into near collapse,
A want, a need for comfort
As the world seems to follow suit.
A pair of heels,
The only thing that makes me stand over 5 foot 5
From a time when I tried
To be pretty and alluring,
To fit in
Before I got tired of the charade.
Brogues
Needed in a effort
To scrub up for some important occassion
And trainers
From when I tried to keep trim and fit.
Gone to pot now
As I trip over my own laces
My own life.
Last come flip flops,
Hardly used in this soggy corner of the world.
Shoes can talk too,
Now I see
My shoes, they talk for me.
