She wants to lie by the ocean,
She wants to lie by the sea,
She wants to lie on the sand dunes,
I know this because she told me.
Last night she thought she'd remind us;
She thought we'd forgotten you see,
She thought she'd hint at her wishes
To be scattered, to lie by the sea.
She came to remind us of seashells
And sea brine and sea foam so free,
We used to picnic by the seaside
Portstewart and Portrush, her and me.
She came to us at half eleven
Just to refresh our tired memories,
As we climbed the stairs for our bedtime
All we could smell was the sea.
The smell of cockles and dulce,
Salt carried on the coast breeze,
Just to let us know she was still with us
And she wants to fly by the sea.
