There are four of us in that photo frame,
Four of us smiling out
At a world we cannot see,
Yet we smile past those doubts.
Frozen in that time frame,
There we cannot see
What tomorrow will bring,
What we'll choose to be.
One friend cannot see the trials
Her mind will cause her matter,
She cannot see the depression
Into which she'll slip, the shatter
Of her life amongst us,
Constantly paranoid
That we do not want her there,
Do not see her, that she's a void.
Another grins so bravely
Into a promise of fortune and fame,
She's already got a record deal,
Already got a stage name.
You can buy her EP on iTunes
Music video and all,
But she cannot see the dangers,
How she could slip and fall.
How drink could drain her purse dry,
How drugs could whither her face,
How relationships could rot her core
If she finds them in the wrong place,
How the images the music industry
And the media want to portray
Don't fit her now, she's no Twiggy,
They could make her waste away
And the cuddly jolly person
We know and love, preserved in ink,
In a rock 'n' roll lifestyle
Could so easily sink.
The third beams brightly
Into the unknown abyss,
That naive smile a talent,
A skill, a soul, a gift.
She's heading off to England
Leaving what she knows here behind
All because she is possessed
Of a such an outstanding mind.
But who knows what could happen
On a dark old London street?
Some grim fate could befall her
A gruesome end she could meet.
She's scared of almost everything,
How can she withstand
Living in some unknown world
With no-one there to hold her hand?
And I, well I'm there aren't I?
In that shiny, sunny world,
Smiling through the glass,
Saying something now unheard.
What waits past that barrier?
If I want to know
I'll have to step from this place,
Into somewhere new I'll go.
Like a wormhole into uncertainty,
Leaving this scene behind
That room, those girls, that lovely day,
Leaving that blissful time.
Well, they've all stepped out, haven't they?
Into their destinies.
They did it without even knowing
So what's stopping me?
The sun of ages is fading
The youthful, pretty face
Of each and every one of them
In a world I must replace
With future. I can dip back in
If I so choose, desire,
So one more step from that little girl
Into the Baptism of Fire.

@Delilah this is sublime. The fear of the future and joy of the past together are so poignant. You are a writer I could read all day.
This is amazing Delilah you've got such talent really hope you do something with it πππππβββββ
Lovely write @Delilah Whatever you do, just remember this - at your age, if you f**k it up, there's plenty of time to put it right and you'll be all the wiser for it too! Don't waste time wondering, seize the day!!! (from someone in the know π) π
@MrsS thanks and thanks for the repost π yeah I keep trying to tell myself but I'm quite the perfectionist I'm afraid haha true that's always there but all my folks and teachers and friends and just about everyone have such high expectations of me, I'm pretty sure sometimes they think I'm Jesus! Haha I might make your advice my new mantra π
@Delilah Believe me, whatever you do will be great if you have truth and happiness. We can't all be rocket scientists!!) ps. It's often those that fear the most who do the best! π
@MrsS hehe I'll remember that ππ thanks (ps. I sorta am a rocket scientist I'm on the school rocket team. How geeky and sad! Hahaha)
