Just a Matter of Time

Familiar faces crowding,
Lives spoiled day after day,
The crackling siren sounding,
Trying to keep us at bay,

The tension around us rising,
So thick, you can cut with a knife,
Darting eyes that are sizing,
Cut short was another quick life,

The line that was so long,
Is now just nearly a dot,
Someone humming a song,
Just a matter of time until, rot.
