•Chapter 18 - Boys, Huh?•
•Ammi•
Watching Kai with his friends, laughing, joking, getting the usual attention he does. People idolise Kai. Personally, I can't see why.
I mean, yes, he's gorgeous in every way, he's smart, he's funny, he's rugged and has attitude, but he's violent and cruel too. I look at the people surrounding him and seethe at how clueless they are.
I get that Kai has problems. I do. But I have a hard time feeling sorry for him when all he does is beat the shit out of me. I don't feel obligated to be sorry for him. In fact, slowly, I'm not feeling anything at all. No emotion. He's breaking me. Like a china doll, smashing me and then patching me back up, before smashing me all over again. I'm scared that one day there'll be nothing left to patch up. Being honest, I'll probably either end up paralysed, mentally disabled, or dead the way he treats me. I don't know what's worse. Being paralysed, I won't be able to defend myself. Being mentally disabled, I won't be able to feel any kind of hate towards him. Being dead... Well... It seems like the most serene option. We all know Kai's going to kill me at some point, this time for good. Maybe it'll be by accident, perhaps by loving me so much I break, or maybe he'll do it slowly, purposefully, beat me for a while before plunging a knife into my stomach. I grit my teeth and let a tear roll down my cheek. However I meet my end, it's no secret that Kai will enjoy every minute of it.
I sat in silence at lunch. Kai and his friends sat at the dinner table with us, bantering and chuckling with one and other. I used my knife to saw at the plastic foam container that held an unappetising substance that the lunch ladies called pasta. I wasn't hungry. I was too depressed to eat.
"Hey Ammi, you look like someone's slapped you across the face, what's up with you?" One of the tools asked pointedly, making the rest of the gang laugh - except Kai.
"You know, the words you just used could not have been more apt" I fake smiled, making sure to cast a menacing glance Kai's way.
Jesus. Did I just do that? I gave Kai the evils. Wow. I'm getting sassy.
The boys took my words into consideration, and began to whisper amongst themselves. A few words sounded like:
"Do you think Kai.....".
"He could have...".
"Maybe she's joking...".
Yes, Kai did. He could have, and he shouldn't have. And no, I am not joking.
Kai took my arm incredibly gently, appearing timid and soft to his mates, but his eyes burned with fiery rage. I didn't care. He could hit me if he wanted to. Lets see what Lord Death has to say... He'll get expelled... No... I don't want it to go that far... Kai, don't hit me, not here. Stay calm.
He stood and gave me a soft tug, clearly wanting to talk to me on his own. I stood and followed him over to the corner of the cafeteria, leaning in close so I could hear his whispers.
"What do you think you're doing?!?" he whisper shouted at me, shocked I would even think of mentioning the violence he inflicts upon me.
"I just answered his question" I stated, not wanting to anger him any more than he already probably was. He seemed fairly calm, just shocked and panicked for the moment.
"Yeah well not like that. If it gets out that I hit you I'll be expelled, they'll separate us as partners" he warned, totally serious about the matter.
"I.. Didn't think of that.." I admitted embarrassedly. Shit. I might not be fully happy with Kai right now, but I don't want to be separated from him. Even if he does abuse me... I need him...
"Clearly" he sighed, rubbing his forehead in his hand.
"Ok, look, let's just go back over there and act like the happiest couple in the world" he continued, coming up with a solution to the problem at hand.
"Couple?" I asked.
Did he just refer to us as a couple? So, like, an item? That's not ok.
Just as Kai went to speak, a gloopy, warm something came splattering onto my jeans. I looked down, disgusted by the horrible texture running down my leg into my shoe. My disgusting pasta. I looked up and saw Kai's mates sniggering as quietly as they could.
That's not funny.
Kai however, found it hilarious. He was in fits of hysterical laughter, almost on the floor rolling around in utter amusement. I stared at him, shocked he found this so funny. I love these jeans. Literally, they are the only pair I have, and feel amazing, not to mention make my butt look great.
Whether the pasta was meant to hit Kai or not, it didn't matter. It had hit me, and he was embarrassing me further. I walked to the nearest table, where a group of girls sat.
"Hi" I smiled at one, her light brown hair in tight, cutely messed curls.
"Can I borrow this?" I asked, picking up her container of pasta. She glanced over at Kai, now surrounded by his friends laughing and pointing at me. She shook her head and sighed.
"Boys, huh?".
"Yeah" I laughed softly, glad that somebody understood.
The girl beside her chipped in on our conversation. She wore a cute hat on her head, the design two eyes and a button nose, making it look like a teddy bear. It suited her, and made her stand apart from the rest of the stereotyped teens in the room.
"Get him!" She grinned evilly, her expression matching mine and the other girl's. I smiled at them both, before walking up to Kai and his gang.
I fake smiled at him. This is payback of the best kind.
I threw the pasta onto his chest, the gloopy mess sliding down his white v-neck. Oh yes.
His jaw dropped, he scoffed, looked up, and grinned at me.
The two girls that were my alliances stood from their table, pinkies locked, before yelling:
"FOOD FIGHT!".
All hell broke loose. Pasta, pizza, burgers, drinks, cakes, every type of food was thrown around the room. I grabbed the nearest pile of spaghetti and lobbed it at Kai. A small part of it hit his shoulder as he dodged and threw two slices of pizza at me. One stuck to my t-shirt! I pulled it off and ran up to him, avoiding flying pastries on the way. He held his hands up in surrender, giving me a gentle smile. I placed the pizza right over his mouth, rubbing it in his face - literally.
When I stopped, he opened hi mouth, causing the pizza to fall. His face was covered in red tomato sauce and little bits of cheese.
Now that was funny. This time It was me bursting out in laughter, the look of his pizza covered face highly amusing to me.
"Are you laughing?" Kai asked, holding back chuckles himself.
"No" I giggled, trying and failing to hide my smile. It was no use.
"Maybe a little bit".
He chuckled, grabbing me around
the waist. I tried to escape his grasp as the rest of the school continued to throw food at the nearest vulnerable victim. I laughed as someone threw food my way.
"Watch out, flying bagel" Kai chuckled, pulling me tight to his chest and stepping the two of us out of the way as the bagel flew past at the speed of light. I squealed, the bagel missing me by two inches.
I giggled and pulled back a bit, going to say something to Kai when he just grinned at me and kissed me.
I know I was supposed to be angry with him, but he was such an amazing kisser. His lips are perfectly formed, always taste amazing, no matter what, he always has fresh breath, and they are the perfect moisture. The feel of him controlling my lips is one that feels so incredibly rare you'd think few had felt it. Maybe when Kai had first referred to us as a couple I was not ok with it, but if being a couple meant feeling this more often, I'd take any labels he wanted to give me.
