•Chapter 19 - I Won't Judge You•
•Ammi•
I picked off stray pieces of pasta and pizza from my shoulders, looking at my messy self in the bathroom mirror. My hair was frizzy, my make up smudged, my clothes covered in food. Kai looked the same, although his hair had come out of the battle of the cafeteria untouched and unblemished - not fair.
We were standing in the girls bathroom - no one cared when Kai came in. The girls gathered in here at break to do their make up and hope Kai and I would make an entrance, shoving me away while they did ridiculous things like ask him if he'd been working out recently or if they could feel his biceps. I shook off the frustrating memory and continued to wipe pasta sauce off my cheek. Two good thins had come from the fight:
One: the entire school was being sent home, too dirty too work in the clothes they wore.
Two: Kai and I had made up.
This was the perfect time to ask.
"Kai?" I began shakily.
"Yeah?" He answered as he tried to rub off the pasta stain on his white v-neck t-shirt. I needed to stop quivering, I didn't have long to ask, the girls would be in here in moments, probably having seen him enter with me.
"Do you think that... Maybe we could... Soul resonate again tonight?".
It wasn't as hard as I'd thought. The words could tumble out of my mouth very easily. Winning the argument to come would be the true challenge.
"I don't want to" he said simply, frowning as his t-shirt stayed the exact same orangey yellow colour.
"Kai please. You didn't show me everything" I begged, stepping closer and abandoning the perfection of my appearance. Kai stuck at it, determined to make himself look clean again.
"I know, I did it on purpose. You don't need to see that stuff Ammi, it'll just hurt you" he told me, taking a brief glance at me in the mirror beside him.
"I promise whatever it is, I'll understand".
I couldn't promise that at all. I had no idea what he could be hiding in the darker part of his mind, and knowing Kai it was probably something sickening and horrific.
"No, Ammi" he sighed, clearly beginning to lose his patience with me and his stained t-shirt. He took it off and walked to the sink, turning on the hot tap and rinsing the material underneath it.
I tried not to get distracted by the tanned, muscular frame of his back and arms. My god. Who knew a back could look so sexy. Those shoulder blades could cut like knives.
Ugh! No! Concentrate.
"Kai come on, I won't judge you, I swear" I pleaded, suddenly back on track with my fight. Just as I thought maybe he'd eventually give in, he spun around on me, wet t-shirt in hand.
"I don't care Ammi!" He snapped at me.
Frankly, I hadn't been expecting that, and flinched with his harsh movement and tone. I took an instinctive step back, feeling as if I was in danger.
Instead of hitting me, he sighed, and turned back around to lean on the sides of the sink.
Just as he did so, six or seven girls came tottering into the bathroom, skirts so high you could almost see the thongs they were probably wearing. Hair perfectly curled or straightened, make up intact and orange as ever faces. I looked obese next to these stick insects.
"Hi Kai!!" The main blondie gave him a sexy pout and went to stand beside him. She trailed her fingers down his bicep, but he still didn't move.
"Oh my god, look at his shoulders, I love guys with nice shoulders!" One girl swooned quietly to another.
"I can't believe he's not wearing a shirt!" Squealed another, along with various other sickening statements.
"Kai, you look so hot when you're angry! What's up babe?" The head blonde asked seductively, trying to win his attention as another girl came in from the other side, just as pretty as the blonde.
He ignored them both, and turned around and walked over to me, taking my forearms and kissing my head softly.
"I'm sorry baby" he apologised sincerely, before enveloping me in one of the best hugs I had ever received. It wasn't even to make the girls jealous. He'd taken time to think about what he should do next. This was definitely the right option. He was warm and smooth, the planes of his chest brushing over my cheeks.
"Let's go hun" he said softly, leaving an arm around my shoulder as he walked me past every death-glaring girl. Their stares didn't phase me. At all. Kai had just done something... Totally normal. He gave me hope that he was getting better.
"Bye girls" he waved.
Ok, now that was definitely to make them jealous ;).
