Chapter 2 - Indy
You could say it was nice bumping into Axton when he was away from his snobby friends. I think Woody had a little thing for Chi so I had to let him say hello anyway.
"Well, I should get going. Me and Woody have a lot of stuff to get" I smiled at Axton.
He smiled back, his gorgeous half smile, then stood up and held out his hand, palm up. There was a card there, a calling card.
I laughed. "No chance" But I winked at him. "That is so impersonal. 'Daddy' made them for you so that if you got speaking to a football coach then you could give it to him but you don't want to play football. Typical rich guy story, your dad pushes you to do something you don't want to do because he didn't get the chance to do it when he was your age. The usual story and it's getting really boring but I don't want anything that 'daddy' brought for you. Like I said that is so impersonal and you haven't given thought into it." I paused before adding, "I am not a bimbo"
I smiled then walked away, Woody trailing beside me.
"Right! Where are we off to first?" I asked Woody as we turned into the market street. He barked at me. "No, we can't get FiFi until last because she will not be happy with being kept in the carrier for so long and you know it."
I spoke to my dog a lot, it was a normal thing for me. We made our way down market street then went into the bookshop, despite the book in my arms. The old lady at the counter smiled at me as the ding announced my entrance.
"Morning, Mary," I smiled. "How's Zeus?"
"Hello, Dearie," She smiled back. "He's doing better but his old bones aren't what they were, I had to leave him at home."
"Aw, that's good. I'm really glad he's doing good but it's a shame you had to leave him at home. You know how him and Woody love to play while I'm in here" I replied, the smile still on my face.
Mary was an old friend of my nan's, so I knew her well, and Zeus was her king charles spaniel.
"I know but he just can't make it here now, it's too far" She replied.
I nodded, I knew there was nothing she could do, he was old. I went to the back of the shop searching the crime section and I was still there ten minutes later when the ding of the door went off. I didn't need to look round to know that Axton was walking towards me.
"So you are a stalker now?" I asked without looking round.
There was silence so I picked up the first book I could see. It just so happened to be The Crucifix Killer by Chris Carter, which looked good.
"I am not stalking you" He defended himself.
"No? ChiChi brought you in here, she smelt Woody on the way in, and you were curious because you've never seen this shop before even though it has been here for years." I looked at him now, leaning against the books I had just been looking at. "And then you wondered why you haven't been in here before because you think it is actually a 'cool' shop but you won't admit it because it'll ruin your 'precious' popularity"
I was smiling again, he did bring out the worst in me.
"My popularity doesn't matter that much to me" He shrugged.
"You say that now but you would never talk to me in school and you would never admit to even liking me a little bit."
"Oh, is that true?" It was his turn to smile now.
"Yep"
"Fine, on monday I WILL prove you wrong" He replied.
"Is that a promise?" I teased, already knowing he didn't go back on his promises.
"You know what, Indy?" Him calling me by my name was a shock, I never expected that. "It is a promise. I promise that I will talk to you on monday, in front of my friends."
I smiled. "You call them friends?"
He nodded. "The girls may be bimbos but the boys, they're cool"
"But not for life?" I asked. This question took him off guard, he hadn't been expecting that, and that made me smile.
"Um..."
I had made him speechless. Actually made Axton speachless and it brought me huge joy.
