Short but, ya know, it's still significant :) x
I didn't have to turn my head to know that Justin's Mom was standing behind us. Her hands were held firmly on her hips, eyes amused as she fought back a smirk. I clambered off Justin, my cheeks bright red in embarrassment. Justin stood up beside me.
Wow. Awkward or what? "Uh... Hi Mom". Way to make the situation worse, Justin. You could literally feel the awkward in the air. "Hi Justin, Drew" she smiled smugly at the two of us. "So what were you two doing down there?". How could one person be so smug at one particular time? "Uh...." was my failed attempt at speaking. Smooth Drew, real smooth. "Hiding" Justin suggested, holding his hands out and shrugging his shoulders.
Before Pattie could say anything else, India came rocketing around the corner, giggling and laughing as she twirled her hair in her fingers. She saved the day. The awkward, intense-kissing day. "We found you! Now I gotta hide" she stomped her feet, before running off at an insane speed down the attic stairs.
Justin and I smiled simultaneously at Pattie, before running after India like lightning.
Justin's POV
India pushed the red toy truck around the garden, going faster and faster through the short green grass. Her small body flew easily through the air, racing after the tiny truck as she made little "Vroom vroom" noises with each step she made.
"India, slow down you're gonna crash" Drew worried, calling over to the little girl. India ignored her and kept running. "Drew, don't worry she's fine" I smiled up at her from the deck chair, tipping my head back to let the sun filter onto my face. "I don't want her to fall" Drew briefly turned to me, but kept her eyes on India for as long as she could. "She's not gonna fall babe" I chuckled.
She's so cute. Drew, I mean. She's so worried about India it's loveable. She ignored me, and kept watching over her. I sighed. "Drew, come here". She didn't budge. "Drew come on, leave her for two seconds. Please?". She looked from India to me, and came to stand impatiently in front of me, as if to say "What now?". Her impatience made me smile. Damn she was hot sometimes. I took her hand in mine and she gasped when I pulled her down into my lap. I wrapped my arms around her waist, making her blush cutely. "You're cute when you blush". And there she goes, blushing again.
We watched as India ran around the yard, squealing and telling her stuffed animals to follow. She was the spitting image of Drew, except, ya know, she was four and Drew was eighteen. "So what am I gonna do when you're working in New York?" she turned to me, a smug smile on her face. "Look beautiful". Haha. Blush. Cute. "Shut up" she punched me in the shoulder playfully, hanging a curtain of red hair over her face to hide the red tint on her cheeks. "You can do whatever you want to babe" l gently pushed the hair out of her face, exposing her dazzling white smile. "Yeah but I won't know what to do when I'm there". She seemed nervous. Really nervous. "Are you nervous Texas?". No answer. "Drew, you've got nothing to worry about. I don't even know what you would be worrying about". What could go wrong? Well, there could be a fire, nudity, vandalism, drunkenness, a bar fight, a collapsing table and a crazy hobo, but that was just a little incident involving a rogue creme brûlée. It's highly unlikely to happen twice.
"I don't know if this is a good idea" she muttered. What? No, please don't say that. I don't want to go without her. I don't want to not see her for three months. That's torture of the worst kind. "Drew, you'll be fine. New York is great. You're gonna love it". Anything to keep her with me. I'll lie through my teeth if it means she can stay with me. Her face showed doubt. I could see she was having a change of heart.
I have to stop it. "I'm not even gonna be working that much, so it'll just be me, you and India in the hotel or out somewhere". That was a massive lie. The size of Texas. Wait, we've been through this before, I'm in Texas, and I think it would be offended, so, the size of China. Or the Russian Federation. Whichever is bigger.
"Really?". Keep going, she's not fully convinced. "Yeah. Me, you, room service" I chuckled half-heartedly. She grinned.
"Room service?".
"Oh yeah".
Maybe I could get better at this whole lying thing. It wasn't that bad anyway. It wasn't as if I was manipulating her or anything. Was it? Her face showed the slightest trace of doubt, so I pulled her lips down onto mine in a gentle, loving kiss. When we pulled back, she spoke "Alright. I'm in". And metaphorical sigh of relief. Ahhh. That's better. I can breathe again.
Heart: yeah, you might be able to breathe, but you just manipulated the girl you love into doing something she doesn't want to do. You're being a jerk, and soon enough, she's gonna know about it. Fix it. Fix it now.
I ignored my heart. I had to. The way she was looking at me. She just looked so in love. With me. I couldn't fix it. Not right now. Later. Most likely. Maybe. Probably not.
Tut tut. Justin's lying :0 Drew's gonna find out, and deep down, he knows it ;).
