Texas Girl (Pt 7)

Drew is now ignoring me. And we didn't even argue. Well, I don't think we did. Drew has other ideas.
I sat impatiently at my table during Maths, staring over at the teacher, almost falling asleep at the clutter-filled desk. The clock ticked slowly, mockingly. Drew sat directly opposite me, chewing on her tongue as she tried to solve the final problem on the test. God she was cute. The way her red hair fell down over her face and spilled out onto her test paper, having gone wavy from the cold, rainy weather outside. I scrawled down a note on a bit of scrap paper that read: "Talk to me Tex", and flicked it across the table at her. She jumped out of her skin when the paper hit her arm, making me chuckle and get a glare from the now-awake teacher. "No talking" he ordered, before placing his head back down on the desk. Drew threw it back, and I opened it precariously, hoping for nothing too explicit. Nothing. She wrote nothing. Not the word "Nothing", just left it blank. Heck, the word "Nothing" would have been an achievement. I frowned at her, and she raised her eyebrows smugly before leaning back over her test paper. I wrote "Come on now Drew. That's just cold" and threw it back. This time, the words on the paper made her bite back a smile. Yes, I was getting somewhere. When she lobbed it back, I had to reach up high and snatch it out of the air to stop it from flying across the room. She mouthed an apology, and I read the note: "It's not that cold today. It's just breezy". Ooh. She got me. Alright. "Drew, seriously, don't ignore me anymore. It's killing me Texas". Her reply was "Hmm... I don't know Biebs. You're pretty much a jackass" and a wink face. Cheeky, cheeky Texas. "Yeah but you make me less jackassy. I need your non-jackassiness to make me less... oh god I'm confused :S" I wrote back, making her laugh aloud. "Texas! No talking!" Mr. Bradley shouted, and I immediately felt bad for getting her in trouble.
The bell rang, signalling the end of the day. Everyone abandoned the test, and legged it out the door, including Drew. I ran to follow, catching up with her on the steps outside. "Texas! Tex stop!" I called, almost tripping down the steps like a pro. "Whoa, slow down there, you're gonna break your neck" Drew stopped and couldn't help but giggle at my clumsiness. I gasped for breath and put my hands on my knees as I stood in front of her. Fuck I needed to work out more. "Drew... I'm sorry... Don't ignore me" I inhaled large, needed breaths, wondering if I'd ever actually be able to breathe properly again. "I'm not ignoring you" she shrugged, pulling her messenger bag up further on her shoulder. I raised my eyebrows. "Seriously? Not ignoring me? I had to throw paper at you to get a shred of your attention Texas" I half-heartedly chuckled, making her cross her arms over her chest in defence. "You didn't let me finish. I was going to say I'm not ignoring you, anymore" she smiled mischievously. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. Sexy.... smile... dying.... need air.... and sigh of relief. Ahh. The things this girl does to me. "Phew. I need you to be my friend Tex... partly because you're my only friend. All the other girls just flirt with me. Even some guys". Drew giggled. I had missed that. "Maybe you should make some guy friends then, but not the ones that flirt with you, obviously. Unless you're into that". We laughed together for a while, missing each other's amusing company. "Oh yeah. Me and James, totally the perfect couple" I said sarcastically, making Drew gasp for breath in front of me she laughed so hard. I smiled as I watched her laugh. She was so beautiful. "I can see a summer wedding" she smiled, before our laughter died gently. "What'cha wanna do tonight" I asked, assuming she was free. Oh yeah, nobody could refuse the Biebs ;). "Homework" she giggled gently. Oh. Maybe they could. "What homework have we got?". "Art, French, History, English and Geography". Fuck. That sounded like a lot. "How do you know all of that?" I wasn't even aware we had homework. "It's called a School Planner Justin. Everybody has one" she laughed, pulling the thick laminated book out of her bag. "I thought that was a paperweight". Haha. Seriously though. Not joking. Drew sighed and laughed at the same time, dragging me towards my car. "Come on, we're going to your place, and I can explain the difference between paper, and a paperweight to you whilst we do our homework". Drew's coming to my place. Score. To do homework. Yeah, not so much.

"Drew?" I asked as I sprawled out on my bed, head and arm hanging off the edge. Drew looked up at me from my bedroom floor, flicking through yet another page of her French homework.
"Do me a favour?"
"What?"
"Shoot. Me. Now."
She giggled softly, standing up and adjusting her plain grey t-shirt. It looked cute with her bright red hair all wavy and soft. Wow, she looked even more beautiful upside-down. No matter how much I wanted to stare at her, I turned over and sat up on my bed. "It can't be that bad" she sighed, sitting down opposite me and taking the History book out of my hand. "Can't we just blow off the homework and watch a movie or something?". She shook her head. Ah crap. I guess I wasn't getting out of this shit any time soon. "Do you even know who Henry the Eighth was?".
"Was he a prostitute?"
"No".
"Burglar?".
"No".
"Mass murderer?".
"No".
"Then No".
She sighed again. "Fine, I'll do it for you, but you have to do my French" she walked over to my desk and sat down, beginning to write down the answers to the questions. I reluctantly stood from the bed, picked up her French book, and finished the fifteen questions standing up. "Done" I said as I threw the book down beside her on the desk. She looked at me, dumb-founded. "Huh? That was two minutes... and you've done them all?". "Tex I speak fluent French" I stated, making her jaw drop. "Not fair!". "Fair" I teased. "Come on, take a break. Do that later" I shrugged, taking her hand and pulling her out of the desk chair and away from the work. I clicked on my iPod, and let it shuffle through as we collapsed side by side on my bed with a sigh.
I stared up at the ceiling, when I really wanted to be staring at her. Drew and her perfect body and eyes and smile and laugh and just... everything. "Drew..." I began, yet was unable to finish my sentence. "Yeah?" she replied, her eyes having slid shut she was so tired. "I uh... I... What were you going to say to me, the other day, at your house?". Come on. Please answer. We're friends again now. She has to answer.
"You really wanna know?"
"Yeah".
"Ok. I was going to say that's really sweet" she lied. I sat up straight beside her, my feet planted firmly on the floor. "Don't lie Tex. It began with a k. I know it did. I remember". Silence. Nothing. "Texas". She sat up, looking into my hazel eyes with her grey ones. "I was going to say Kellogs". Shit. Seriously? Did she honestly think I was that stupid? "Drew, come on" I raised my eyebrows, giving her a look. She returned with an expression of innocence "What? I was. I was hungry". Ok, that was the biggest lie yet. "Drew, you're never hungry. You eat air, remember?". She looked down at her hands, fiddling with her thumbs as they rested in her lap.
The next song began to play on my iPod, "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" by Iron and Wine. I loved this song. I tried to focus on Drew instead of the music. It wasn't that difficult, seeing as though she was as beautiful as the song.
Ok, deep breath. Suck it up. Now was the time. Now or Never. She was all yours. It's your only chance, you'd better go for it. One deep breath, and I spoke "Drew..." I started, getting her to look up at me. "You are the most... most amazing person I have ever met. You're funny, and smart, and happy, and just... well beautiful. I know we're friends and everything, but I don't want that" I said sincerely, truthfully, eyes filled full of emotion and love for the beautiful girl. "You don't want to be my friend?" she whispered in a hurt tone, frowning softly. "No. I don't". She looked away from me, hiding the tears springing to her gorgeous eyes. I hesitantly pulled her gaze back to mine with my finger and thumb to her chin. "I want to be so much more" I confessed.
I'd never felt so free in my life. I'd told her, in so many words, I was in love with her. She sat there, swallowing back emotion second after second. "Justin?". "Yes Drew?". Deja vu or what.
She was going to tell me. Finally. She was going to speak the words I had longed to hear for over three weeks now, even though they could break my heart in two. She inhaled a deep breath, and so did I. My heart raced, my blood rushed. My head began to pound just with the pure suspense of it. And then she said those two words, the two, most brilliant words I had ever heard her say.
"Kiss me".

I just had to leave it at a cliffhanger, didn't I? You have permission to be frustrated ;D
