The brain is the body’s most resilient organ to change. It’s eerily complicated and impossibly intricate. That’s also why hopelessness can scare us more than anything. The organ we rely on to get us through life suddenly doesn’t have the answers. The interpreter of everything doesn’t know how to interpret. And when the brain doesn’t even know what to do, then really, is there anything left to do?
The answer to this question is yes. Because the human body is designed to survive. We’re born to live. We can’t control the impulse. The only humane thing to do comes down to our fight-and-flight system. When we are presented with a threatening situation, we have two options. Fight, or flight. And most often, we tend to flight. Wait out the storm. See what’s next. But with flight, especially when it’s from our problems, we don’t seem get anywhere in life. We will stand idly by, growing weaker and weaker, with only our thoughts as company. Isolated and still. The battle we fight with ourselves is usually the hardest, because no one can judge you harder than yourself.
No, the fight that life really is about is The Fight. Because life is hard, and threatening and scary in many ways. But it can also be really good. It can be great. It’s all in how we choose in life. What we are motivated to do, and what we are passionate about. Because science can only take us so far. The rest is up to dreams, hope and imagination that we are capable. Because, we are. Creating yourself is a life long journey and it’s long and sometimes lonely. But you never know what’s going to come your way around the corner. You don’t know what’s next, and that’s the beauty of life. But if we really fight for it, we can decide our journey. We choose. We decide.
We are smarter than we think. That’s also why we seem to be hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.
But the main goal is to actually live life. If the brain can be so set on preparing for danger, it is doing everything it can to survive, making sure we see tomorrow. Because without fear, sadness and pain in the worst situations, the brain has simply given up the fight. We have given up.
Life is not about the burden you’re carrying. It’s about how you carry that burden. Because the harsh truth is, that we all feel it. The pain. The loneliness. The hopelessness. But you have to ask yourself; will this matter to me when I’m happy?
The obvious answer is “no”. We also have to remember that, it’s not about being happy all the time. It’s about being able to roll with the punches. To laugh adversity in the face and say “Come at me. I’m not afraid”
Because in the long run “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is a cliché that everyone should hold close to heart.
Laugh. Curse. Cry. Sing. Dance. Do whatever, but remember; never stop moving. And never lose sight of your dreams. Because the best cure against adversities is hope. And we never run out of hope. When you feel like all is lost, remember that hope never left. It just showed you how important it is to always have hope. Candy will taste so much better if you haven’t had it for a while, right? The harder you fight, the sweeter the reward.
Be a warrior. A place of conflict and peace. A land of which you are the ruler. The impartial judge that will see to both sides, accepting the bad as a contrast to the good. And realizing that no one can decide how you want to stay motivated and living. Because that’s entirely up to you.
