We walked out of the room. Jonny clutched the Yankees cap in his hands, and I clutched Kay's hand. The doctor told us to go home, but, right now, that was the last place we wanted to be. We sat in silence at the flat. None of us dared to say the first word. Apart from Jonny, who leaped up and cried:
"He wouldn't want us to be moping about like this! We should be celebrating his life! That's what he would want!"
That was true, but none of us felt like partying right now. I needed to keep myself occupied. So I did the one thing I did when I needed to escape reality. Skate. I wandered down the uneven, cracked path to the skatepark. The path was rather like my life, people had been stepping all over it, and it was broken in places. I spend a good three hours there, clearing my head. There wasn't long until the Skate Off. I remembered what Robbie had whispered to me, and I smiled. I was going to make him proud of me. I needed to talk to someone. Someone who knew me more than anyone else in the world. Tony. I skated all the way to Brocklehurst Road, and knocked on the door of number 16. The house was brilliant from the outside, and even better from the inside. It had a thatched roof, with a chimney, and a garden with a coy pond. It had a winding path that lead to the large blue door. I timidly knocked on the blue wooden door, and was greeted by Tony!! Before he even had a chance to say one word, I leaped at him, and hugged him. We stood there, hugging, for a while. Then he held me at arms length, and smiled.
"I really missed you Red", He said, "It's not been the same without you, you know? Living with Sally is fun, but it's not the same. She is a girl after all."
He invited me in and put the kettle on.
"Whats going on Red?", He asked, talking in a stern tone, "You wouldn't just show up like this, not without a reason."
I didn't want him to know.
"I just wanted to see you..." I lied.
"Bullshit!" He laughed, "Theres something you're not telling me, isn't there?"
I nodded.
"Do you want to tell me?"
I did nothing.
We simply sat there for a few minutes. Saying nothing. Then I burst into tears and told him everything. About Robbie. About Kay and me. About Jonny and the drugs. And about that gang that was going to kill me.
"Well...", He said, clearly gobsmaked, "It seems that the best thing for you to do, is to go and talk to your friends. Set the record straight."
As I was walking back up the broken path, to the flat, I made sure not to step on any cracks. I couldn't be doing with bad luck right now.
