We arranged to meet up at KFC again for lunch. Anyway, Jonny said he had a surprise for me and Kay.
Jonny arrived at my flat at about 12:30am, and guess what? TONY answered the door!
"Sorry, I don't want double glazing, thanks kid." Said Tony wearily, shutting the door.
"WAIT!", cried Jonny, putting his hand on the door to try and keep it open, "I'm here to see Red. Were going to KFC for lunch, actually."
"Oh, sorry mate. He's in his room."
Jonny knocked on my bedroom door.
"Hey Red! Can I come in?"
"Yeah sure, come on in!" I called to him.
He entered my room grinning at me.
"What?"
He looked at me innocently with his big brown eyes.
"That guy", He started, "Is a right pain in the-"
At that moment Kay came stomping into the room wearing a red hoodie, black denim shorts and a pair of Doc Martins. She looked awesome.
"Are we going or what?" She said huffily, "I haven't got all day!"
So Jonny led us to a dirty, pale green truck covered in patches of rust. He must of seen the expression on my face.
"I'm saving up." He said calmly, pulling a set of car keys from the pocket of his shirt. It was his usual Hawaii get-up, floral shirt, baggy jeans and a huge grin on his face!
When we got to KFC Jonny told me about the surprise.
"Check it out!", He said, pulling a brightly coloured piece of paper from his pocket. It was slightly creased, but that didn't matter. "It's the biggest competition of the century!" He lay the piece of crumpled paper on the table and smoothed it out with the palm of his hands. It read: SKATE OFF! SANTA CRUZ! 5:00am! BEACH SKATE PARK! SATURDAY! 4 ROUNDS, 1 WINNER! IT COULD BE YOU! A $10,000 PRIZE!
What he was talking about was a skateboarding competition he was thinking of entering. It said on the poster that it was at the beginning of November, so anyone thinking of entering had plenty of time to decide. And even more time to practice!
"You two comin' as well then?" He asked us.
"Well, I'm up for it if you two are." I said, looking at Kay, who was sitting next to me.
"I'm in." Said Kay, smiling.
"Me too." I said.
"Me three." Said Jonny.
So it was settled, we where all going to the Santa Cruz Skate Off event on Saturday 2nd November.
