Who Am I? Part 9

"WAKEY WAKEY DELILAH!" Eddie shouted from somewhere close in my bedroom. I jumped, from laying down which in itself is something to be proud of, about a foot high, landing heavily back on the bed.
"FUCK OFF!" I yelled back wrapping the duvet over my head and tangling myself in it.
"Don't swear!" he scolded "Get up now someone is here I want you to meet"
"What time is it?" I mumbled refusing to move
"Nine o'clock, anyway get up!"
"Hell no! What are you doing getting me up at nine its a Monday!" I moaned turning over and closing my eyes. Suddenly the whole world became cold and insanely bright which stung my fluttering eyes. Oh hell to the no, he pulled my duvet off. "As if you just did that!" I huffed my eyes hardly open as I crawled on the bed attempting to swipe my duvet which was losing heat rapidly.
"Well tough I just did, anyway there is someone I'd like you to meet" he said gesturing over to a woman in the doorway her blondey-brown hair up in a tight bun, wearing a brown pencil skirt and a green top. Her shoes were just plain black flats with no design.
"Who are you and why are you the reason he's waking me up at such an ungodly hour?" I asked opening one eye tentatively at first then the other.
"I'm Miss Gerrard, I'm a teacher from the local school in Deepdale" she introduced herself. Garry and Eddie tried to keep me in the same schools through important years. Although I had been home-schooled a few years.
"Oh come on!" I turned to Eddie "You woke me up for this!" I moaned
"Sorry kid it has to be done" he stepped to the end of my bed so I took my chance and swiped back my duvet, knotting myself up in it.
"Wake me in a couple of hours" I murmured
"Delilah! GET OUT OF BED!" Eddie roared and with a huff I dragged myself out of bed, duvet wrapped around me.
"Get out of my room" I ordered, I watched them exit before starting to get dressed. I just pulled on a pair of jeans that had escaped from my suitcase and ended up on the floor, and started rooting around my bag for a t-shirt stupidly after I had discarded my pajama top somewhere. As I was pulling my chosen blue slightly low cut 'Do Epic Shit' t-shirt over my head I heard my door squeak open. I tugged the shirt of the last part of my exposed upper half and turned to see who the culprit was.
"Why was there shouting at this stupid time?" Lewis leant against the paneling around the door way rubbing his eyes.
"You're an army man, thought you'd be up earlier than this" I replied rummaging in my bag for a yellow chunky watch I strapped on my right wrist.
"Yeah well I can still be an Army man and sleep in y'know" he smiled watching me as I tied my hair up in a pony tail.
"I wish I could right now" I whined brushing past him and jogging a little to the bathroom at the end of the hall our bedrooms were down. It was similar to the rest of the house, stone tiles everywhere mixed in with new elements. I quickly brushed my teeth, strutted out of the room passed Lewis, who was still stood in my doorway, with a smirk on my face and into the living room where Eddie and Miss Gerrard were sat at the dining table.
"Ah Delilah you've finally graced us with your presence" Eddie leant back on his chair watching me as I took a seat opposite him. He rolled his eyes at my shirt. "Couldn't you have worn a better shirt?"
"Nothing wrong with it" I retorted "Where's Garry?" I asked looking around the room and not seeing him anywhere
"He's gone out to the shops" Eddie answered leaning on the table.
"Now Delilah, I will be your main teacher but there will be others in your chosen subjects that will come and teach you" she smiled kindly although her features were sharp and her eyes hard.
"Great..." I sighed I watched her quickly glance over to Eddie before turning to me and adopting the same pose as Eddie. Leaning her forearms on the table, hands clasped and shoulders hunched.
"What subjects did you choose?" she asked
"Psychology, Sociology, combined English Literature and Language and Geography" I answered these were my A-Level choices and coming September I'd have to drop one, I'm thinking geography not enjoying what I have done.
"Oh what do you want to be?" she asked trying to look interested although her eyebrows we're stationary and her eyes were like green marbles, no emotion was there and there was a slight reflection of the window bouncing off of her small pupils.
"Something in the police maybe" I shrugged folding my arms on the table and pushing my face in them.
"Ok, that's cool, tell me something about yourself"
"No" I mumbled smirking, I never really got on with girls as much as I did boys.
"I'm sorry what?"
"Delilah, be nice" I heard Eddie sigh, I lifted my head resting my chin on my arms.
"Sorry, no I do not want to tell you about myself. That better?" I asked too tired to care.
"Tell me about your parents...?" she asked, I looked to Eddie who was swiping his hand across his neck telling her it wasn't the best question to start with.
"My mother is dead and my father I've never met" I smiled sweetly "And it's all my fault" I added
"Oh... I-I'm sorry...?"
"... No you're not, now can we finish this later I'm starving and need breakfast" I stood sliding the chair back the feet scraping painfully on the floor before I walked off into the kitchen.
"Delilah I will return tomorrow with a time table of your lessons and I will be joined by one of your teachers the rest will meet you in the near future, I hope you are in a better mood when I see you next" she said stood in the arch way to the kitchen where I had my head in a cupboard.
"(Don't hold your breath) ok bye" I replied getting out my cereals and pouring them out.
"Well done(!)" Eddie congratulated me sarcastically as he walked passed me to the fridge.
"No problem" I replied with a mouthful of Kellogg's.
"I thought we taught you better than to act like that around new people?" he said although it came out more like a question.
"Probably" I shrugged trying to stop the drip of milk from going anywhere but back in my bowl.
"Probably?" he repeated exasperated "Remember first impressions count and you've completely wrecked that one! Now buck up your ideas kid otherwise-"
"Otherwise what?" I demanded slamming my bowl onto the counter.
"Otherwise you'll end up exactly like your mother" he snapped
"What's that supposed to mean?" I yelled in his face
"It means you'll end up nose higher up than fucking mount Everest and not a single friend in the world!" he roared back, I just stared back at him my mouth hanging open.
"Don't you dare say that about my mother" I hissed watching his stormy eyes.
"Why it's not like you actually knew her, I knew her. Knew what she was really like" he growled and on impulse my fingers curled around the edges of the bowl and I threw the remainder of my breakfast in his face. He had milk dripping off of his nose, off of his eyebrows and cornflakes stuck in his hair. I stormed out of the kitchen tied my trainers on my feet and slammed the front door behind me where I ran. By myself. I had no idea if Eddie was following me, or where Garry was, or Lewis. I kept going leaping over rocks jutting out of the ground. I jumped over the last of the really big rocks and as I landed I rocked back on my heels sitting heavily down resting my back against the rugged rock face. My breaths were shallow, my hands shaking not from the running but from the anger building up because of what Eddie had said.
"Delilah" Lewis called my name out softly as he slowed to a stop beside me, he'd hardly broken out into a sweat but then again I didn't expect him to. He leant one hand on the rock looking down at me straight into my eyes.
"Lewis" I mimicked only breaking our eye contact as he held out his hand to help me up. I accepted it, letting him pull me to my feet.
"He's had some bad news probably why he's all cranky" Lewis tried to excuse Eddies words, I closed my eyes and turned my head away from him.
"Don't make excuses for what he said" I said sourly
"I'm not trying to, I'm just letting you know" he replied calmly putting a hand on my shoulder his thumb resting on my exposed collar bone. The pad of his thumb sent electric shocks through my skin. "Look I know what he said hurt you... And you have to admit you weren't the easiest person to talk to this morning" he smiled his hand moving to my neck "But then again he shouldn't have said that about your mum" he added and pulled me into an embrace something brushing against my cheek as our faces passed. Was that just a figment of my imagination? Just my hair delicately running over my cheek at the orders of the wind? Or what my mind wants to believe so much yet knows that the possibility is minute. Could it really be his lips that brushed against my cheek? ...
