The wind rushed through my hair. I could feel my heart, and it felt like it was racing to get out. My head was dizzy and I was about to lose all hope. They were right on my tracks and with their gun pointed at me. A drop of sweat beat down the side of my forehead. I had to out-run them. I had to escape.
I was running out of breath and time. I was so desperate I went for the oldest trick in the book. I ducked behind the wall. The ally air was musty, moldy debris was scattered, and the cracks on the graffitied wall had stale water slowly dripping from their openings. I crouched as tight as I could and ducked my head between my knees. I carefully opened my eyes. They passed! They ran right by! I waited for a brief moment, just in case that they had second thoughts. I hesitantly stood up. I was safe for now, but not forever. I need to move. SOON.
