I am going to write today
In honour of my dad
The one who makes me laugh
Whenever I'm feeling sad
When I fall down it's always him
Who's there to pick me up
And definitely not forgetting
The ever-present coffee cup!
Occasionally we argue when
we both think that we're right
I think I picked that up from him
Stubborn in every fight!
When I was just a baby
He worked 16 hour shifts
To keep us fed and comfortable
And to buy us Christmas gifts
Its nice that I can celebrate
And give him something back
To honour all the times we've had
And cut him some slack!
I always remember a holiday
When we walked on Hastings pier
I thought I'd fall through the gaps
But he said 'have no fear'
'You won't fall through the gaps
But if somehow you fell
The first one after you would be me
I'd dive into the swell'
It stuck with me, that moment
Completely safe in his arms
I knew no matter what happened
He wouldn't let me be harmed
So Dad this one I've written
Completely for you!
Remembering all the times
That you helped me get through...
