In English class, we're learning poems and 'all about them'. How they HAVE to have meter and rhyme and how the author HAS to have a reason for writing them and how poems HAVE to have a meaning behind them. And how ALL authors ALWAYS analyze the poem and change some things they think is not good or worthy of being in the poem (like deleting a whole stanza). And how the poem HAS to be serious. So I'm sick and tired of these so-called 'poem rules', so I decided to write a poem about that. So please enjoy my rant :)
You say it has to have a rhyme,
And it has to have a meter time.
And that they can't be funny without being dumb,
But I think that you're just a great, big bum.
Because a poem comes from the soul,
It's a mystical story being told.
Or it spills angrily out of your head, splattering on the page,
No analyzing, just blowing up with rage.
Or it's curving out of your hands, twirling on the paper,
Happily springing off the page or it could be a love letter.
Or there was something funny that happened today,
Or an outrageous thing that you heard someone say.
Poems are your heart blooming words; pictures in written form,
Just put pen to paper and a poem is born.
Write them upside down, fancy, in ink, or backwards,
But they have always been and will always be
Beautiful Words.
