I rush about from place to place
To find somewhere to hide
Screaming my soul's displeasure
To those whom I pass by.
And sometimes I am romping
Racing from pure joy
Chattering like a maniac
(Or every girl and boy.)
As the days get hotter
I'll flop down for a rest
And not a breath will stir me
Not prayers, not heat, not pests.
But a different kind of stillness
Is the one where I sit --wait!
Filled with fearful energy
For the summer storm, the bait.
Do I fear or love it?
This crazy life of mine
Is it fear or sweet pleasure
That sets my screams in line?
But still, when morning rises
I've never been asleep
Stopping only here or there --
Brief respites on the sea...
