What is the point of patriotism? Or being true to your culture? Or, should I say, the culture of your ancestors?
Particularly if, like myself, you didn't grow up adhering to the teachings, or lifestyle of that culture. I could've been born anywhere in the world, at any time, or not at all, and each time, my cultural background might differ immensely. Why do I have to celebrate the actions of those who are not me? Why do I have to be proud of the deeds done by long-dead people, in places I do not live, and am only connected to through my heritage?
And patriotism, supporting your town, city, country or even continent no matter what. This is a moronic idea. You are supporting the team created by selecting a few members of a million strong population, which didn't include you, in a competition you have both no control over, and no part in, other than spectator.
I will never understand people who celebrate the most mundane aspects of their accidents of birth, to the point where they will fly the flags (of which they do not understand the symbolism), to support teams (of which there is no difference at all if they win or lose).
...I think I just hate televised sports in general.
