Funny how the government
Have tried to capture me
On a little piece of card
All stamped and bluish-green.
It's tells me where I came from,
Tells me my name
But it doesn't tell me who I am
Surely that's the aim of the game?
It doesn't tell my favourite colour,
Of my sweetheart down the road,
My favourite sweets, the date, the time
And where I broke my collar bone,
It doesn't tell how I love art,
Or want to dance like Fred Astair,
It doesn't say how I love jazz
Or how I love the cool night air,
It doesn't say I hate brussels sprouts
Or my favourite pair of shoes,
This is vital information
They can't just pick and choose.
They've written down everything
They think they need to see
But on my identity card
They've failed to identify me.
