Why? Part 7.

~~~~I know, it's been so long since I've posted some of this.. But they'll get more regular after this.. I hope.
Anyway, I'm sure I lost what readers I had in my month of not posting this, as I know one quit.. But I want to finish this, whether someone reads it or not. This part is also very short, but that is because of the... lovely.. pile of homework waiting to be done..~~~~
As I sat there through the funeral procession, I daydreamed. It was a very bad habit of mine, daydreaming during church, but I could never stop.
Only when Liam took those first few steps towards the reading podium did I go back to that day.
"Amy was a special girl," he began, his voice cracking with disuse. "We all knew it. Some people were cruel to her, others simply didn't show her they cared." I could see the tears shining in his eyes. "I, unfortunately, never told her how much I cared. I was in love with that girl.. Everyone knew. Everyone except for her.. and my girlfriend." The gasp that came from the few gathered was almost comical, if you forgot that it was a funeral. I stood up to touch Liam on the cheek. I knew he wouldn't feel it. But he smiled a little, moving his head in my hand like a puppy might do. Savouring the feeling. He did it discreetly, so nobody would see, but I was sure he could feel my touch.
He loved me in the same way I loved him.. That was impossible to believe.
He continued with his speech, his voice a little stronger.
"Her parents had suspected that she was depressed. They asked me to keep an eye on her.." His smile faded.
No, Liam, please.. Don't cry..
"And I failed. I was too busy pretending to be in love with her best friend. Too focused on making sure she never knew how I felt.. That girl deserved better than me. I knew that then, and I'm even more certain of it now.
"She was bullied her whole life. I could never figure out why. She was beautiful.." he trailed off, his tears finally pouring down his face. He took a second, but he continued. "She was beautiful, talented, and the kindest person I knew. She never wanted anyone to feel like they weren't good enough, never wanted anyone to be alone." Here, his expression became pained. "I can't believe it took me so long to realise... She didn't want anybody to feel like she did."
He took a deep breath.
"Amy, if you can hear me.. I'm sorry. So sorry. You should've known that you could talk to me, should've known I cared.. But I never told you.
"I love you, Amy.. And I always will."
He stepped down from the podium and ran out of the church, his tears still pouring down his pained face.
I'm a proud Irish Directioner named Meghan.. People always say I seem older than I actually am.. Maybe my experiences aged me. Who knows? But I'm far from mature :p I'm me.. Nobody will ever change that, no matter how hard they try. And trust me, they try. "I'm just a girl, trying to find a place in this world.." "Don't make me stay the night, or ask if I'm alright.. 'Cause I don't have the answer." "And you're tied together with a smile, but you're coming undone.." "Don't listen to a word I say.. The screams all sound the same." "I'm trying to be okay, I'm trying to be alright.." "I'm sorry I can't be perfect." "You're broken and scarred, nothing feels right.." "You might think I'm bulletproof, but I'm not." "You're the closest thing to Hell I've seen so far." "I'm holding every breath for you."
