Human Harvest

Chapter three

"Ammy! I see you escaped the harvest!" Greyman's joy was clear on his face.
"And I see you did too Grey, which is just as well... I have a proposal for you" she must have said it with a extremely serious look on her face...
"Woah, woah, woah. You know we've got a year to wait before we can secure the next ten." his youthful face suddenly looked as though it'd aged by ten years. She laughed.
"As amazing as it would be to get a head start on our handfastening... I actually came up with a decent idea. Just there's a small problem.." she lightly prodded Greys bicep, and began fiddling with the tools around his blacksmith work shop.
"Oh care to enlighten me?" there was a cheeky glint in his eye...
"Well its tricky you see, in order for my plan to work we need a person who can cast." Ammy sat heavily on a old wooden bench.
"That's next to impossible. Well, it would be, but you're just in luck. Where abouts was you at dawn this morning. I didn't see you at the pre-harvest announcements?" his brow furrowed, and for a moment beneath the black smudge marks on his face she could see the handsome man that he'd grown into. Her heart thudded a little harder.

"No... They didn't notice did they?" she felt her eyes go wide.
"If I didn't know, they aren't going to know. Anyway. The Powers have decided that they want to spread the magic out more. So they've sent another group of fifty or so other people here, you know they was renovating those harvested families houses on the north edge? Well thats why. And one of them came in today. Wants a new door knocker. Practically bragged that his fourteen year old daughters one." he explained, dazing her with one of his smiles, before ruffling his brown hair, leaving black traces from his gloves.
"Well you know what you've got to do..." She winked at him.
"What I've got to do?" he looked confused.
"you've got to make her fall in love with you, lure her in, and befriend her... That's why all your friends are girls. It's what you're good at." she swung her legs mischievously, looking down at the floor to hide her redding face.
"Haha, Ammy, you know you're the only girl for me. Those other girls don't bring me as beautiful ores as you do." he'd grabbed her chin and faxed into her eyes. She pulled away.
"Grey, quit fooling. We've got to survive first. And I've got a plan to help us survive next year. Neither of us have the parents to rely on any more, and what about your brother? He wont be able to cope." she hated to get all serious on him.
"You're right... So what's the idea then?" he asked.
